Session 5 to Session 9

Lesson 2 – Basics of Computer

AIM of the lesson -

 Students should understand the difference between Computer and other

machine.
 Like any other machines, computer also works under IPO cycle.
 Students should also understand types of computers.

Topics covered

 Difference between Computer and other machine

 IPO cycle
 Keyboard (input device), CPU (processing), Monitor (output device).
 Types of computers and its works.

I – Introduction

Introduce the topic as How Computer Works? Students may not be able to
answer perfectly. Ask students whether they know how any other machine work.
They may come with so many other machine names.

Discuss with them about the machines and connect it I-P-O cycle, ask them what
is input? What is processing? what is output?

L – Listen and See

CS Teacher may run the lesson by using multimedia preferably big monitor or LCD
projector, students should listen see and enjoy.

E – Explain
Demonstrate the following points using or without using Course Book.

 Computer is a Machine like any other machine works in electricity

 Ask more examples and make the children to connect with the I-P-O cycle
(what is input, processing and output of that machine).
 How computer works
 Parts of the computer.
 Types of computer and its works.
 Desktop, Laptop Computers, smart phone, Tablet Computer.
 Make students to understand what is portable(movable), immovable and
give more examples.

A – ‘Apply’ the lesson by doing Book Activities, Exercises and Home Work.

Book Activities

Book Activities are the part of the Lesson. The CS Teacher may help the students
to complete the Book Activity. CS Teacher may show the Book Activity part from
the Multimedia content to the students. Let every student observe and
understand the working process. If necessary, the multimedia can be shown
repeatedly followed by students has to the same Book Activity with or without
help of teachers.

Generally, theoretical lessons Book Activities are given as a written work and
practical lesson step by step instructions to follow and do practical in computer.
In practical lessons students also have to write their learning from the Book
Activities in the space provided.

Home Work

After explaining the concept of I-P-O cycle, give them home work page no :22
from the book. Have a conversation with the children and discuss about it more in
the next session.
Note

Ask any of the child to stand one by one, they have to explain about respective
cycle in that pictures.

Exercises

Exercises are the most important part of the Applications of the lesson. Students
should do exercises on their own. After effective explanation including Demo and
Practical, CS Teacher may allocate these as Home Work or conduct an Assignment
Test.

Student may refer the Course Book, Practical Note or Running note to complete
the exercises. In case of any difficulties, they may discuss with teacher in the next
class.

Note

It is advised to the Computer Science Teacher that the answers to the exercises
are not shown to the students beforehand. It is necessary and important that the
students find answer to the exercises on their own. Any mistakes, the make, are
part of the learning process and will prompt them to remember that better.
Providing answers beforehand will encourage them to by heart the lesson without
understand the concept. A follow up discussion on why the particular answer is
correct is also necessary.

R – Reinforce

Students should do Lab Activities and Practical Exercises. Few students may be
engaged with computer where as others can discuss with teacher regarding their
doubts and difference between the other machines and computer.

N – Note Down
Students should note down in the space provided in WIOL tables and Exercises
before or after doing Lab Activity and Practical Exercises.
