STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

FOR CNC DIE SINKER EDM

BRAND: MITSUBISHI (EA8)

Starting Up Machine

1. Press down the 3-Phase Switch.

2. Press down the “ON switch” at the back of the EDM machine.

3. Then, press green button switch at main control panel.

4. After that, release the “Emergency” button by turning it clockwise.

5. Noted that the control panel screen showing the “READY OFF” massage.

6. Finally, press ‘Ready’ button.

Setting Up Home Position

1. Please use the Hand Console Unit.

a. Press, simultaneously with X, Y, and Z button. (Doesn’t matter either

negative or positive button).

b. The home position coordinate will appears at the control panel screen.

Work piece Setup

1. Work-piece setup
a. Change G54 to W01 by pressing button at “Hand Panel” simultaneously with

“W-up” or “W-down”

b. Move the electrode to the work piece edge (x-axis). Make sure that the electrode height
is lower than the work piece surface.

c. Start touch electrode to work piece, press button and X-axis ,

once the electrode touches the work-piece alarm will buzz. Then key-in X=0.0 as shown
below, press enter.

d. Press release button , hold and press Z+ .

e. Move electrode to the desire position. Example, if cutting position is at X=93.0 mm from
the work piece edge, key in X=93.0 at “POSITION TO”, press enter. To move the

electrode at the above position, press button.

f. To reset the position, again, set X to 0.0 mm at the “RELATIVE POS.”


g. Repeat step (b to f) above for Y and Z axis set-up.
h. Key in 1.0mm into Z “POSITION TO” and press Enter and press Start button.

Setup Die Sinker Setting

1. Press E.S.P.E.R button , screen as shown below will appear.

2. Key in the data as below;


a. Work No = 1 (it depends on our first setting for W) If you are using W02, than set the
Work No = 2.
b. Leave the column blank for the Start Point X and Y.
c. Set the Z Start Point to 1.0mm. [Depend on 8 (h) setting above].
d. Highlight Depth Z and enter the desired cutting depth. For this lab exercise, enter
-0.2mm.
e. Move the cursor to E-CONDTN and press M6 for “SEARCH E COND.”
f. Than press M7 for EXPERT setting.

g. MCHNG DSCR:
i. MCHNG TYPE: CAVITY
ii. MATERIALS:

iii. MCHNG DEPTH: 0.2mm.


iv. SURFACE FINISH Rz (Micrn): 10.0
v. FINISHING MODE: MATTE FINISH.
vi. FLUSHING: FLUID EMMISION.

vii. BOTTOM CONTACT AREA (mm2): Calculate based on electrode surface area.
Example: Square Electrode: Area = Length x Width

Cylinder electrode: Area = π

h. ELECTRODE
i. INT.MCHNG: ON
ii. UNDERSIZE: Leave it Blank.
iii. ORB PT: Select CIRCLE if using cylinder electrode or
select SQUARE if using square electrode type.

i. PRIORITY
iv. SELECTION: SPEED

3. Press M1 and Click “OK” for automatic selection of program number. [Please remember the
recommended program number]

4. Press CLOSE M8 and press FILE M1


5. Press SAVE M3

6. Enter L NO. as recommended by the machine. Example 8013
7. Press Monitor.
8. Close the tank door.
9. Press Start button.
10. Make sure the Drain Valve is set to Half Fill.
11. Please wait until the process finished.
12. Once finished, set the Drain Valve to DRAIN.
