Cisco SAN Switch Device-Alias Configutration

This document provides procedures for configuring device aliases on Cisco SAN switches at an IBM data center for Bharti Tele Venture Ltd. It includes instructions for logging into the SAN switch, creating an alias database and aliases, committing and distributing the aliases, and validating the configuration by checking that host port world wide names are mapped to the correct device names.

Cisco SAN Switch Work Instructions


Cisco SAN Switch Device-alias Configuration
Phase S/N Steps Command Remarks/Cautions
Login to Cisco SAN Select the interface ports
1. Switch with Admin user before configuring VSAN
name and Password
And VSAN ID
through CLI

2. Step 1 switch# config t Enters configuration mode

Configures the database


3. Step 2 switch(config)# device-alias database for a device-alias
SAN Switch switch(config-device-alias-db)#
configuration
backup switch(config-device-alias-db)# device-alias name
“Name” pwwn “pWWN”
Configures an alias name
4. Step 3 Example:- that maps the pwwn of the
switch(config-device-alias-db)# device-alias name host adapter
CNDAEAI2APZP04_FCS2 pwwn 21:01:00:e0:8b:3d:9f:b2
switch(config-device-alias-db)# exit

5. Commit the alias name


Step 4 switch(config)# device-alias commit
Distrbute the alias name
6. Step 5 switch(config)# device-alias distrbute over the SAN Network
