The square thread form is a common screw thread form, used in high load applications such
as leadscrews and jackscrews. It gets its name from the square cross-section of the thread. It is
the lowest friction and most efficient thread form, but it is difficult to fabricate. The advantages
of square threads are as follows: They have high efficiency, They have lower friction coefficient
hence less power loss in lifting the load, Motion of the nut is uniform since there is no side thrust
and radial pressure on the nut. The disadvantages of square threads are as follows: The threads
are usually turned on a lathe machine with a single point cutting tool hence expensive compared
to machining with multi-point cutting tools. This makes them more difficult to manufacture. The
strength of a screw depends upon the thread thickness at the core diameter. Square threads have
less thickness at core diameter than trapezoidal threads. This reduces the load carrying
capac This form is used for power/force transmission i.e. linear jacks, clamps. The friction is
low and there is no radial forces imposed on the mating nuts. The square thread is the most
efficient conventional power screw form. It is the most difficult form to machine. It is not very
compatible for using split nuts-as used on certain machine tool system for withdrawing the tool
carrier

Trapezoidal thread forms are screw thread profiles with trapezoidal outlines. They are the most
common forms used for leadscrews (power screws). They offer high strength and ease of
manufacture. They are typically found where large loads are required, as in a vise or the
leadscrew of a lathe . [1] Standardized variations include multiple-start threads , left-hand
threads , and self-centering threads (which are less likely to bind under lateral forces).Used for
power transmission i.e. lathe lead screws. Is easier to manufacture compared to a square thread.
It has superior root strength characteristics compared to a square thread. The acme screw thread
has been developed for machine tool drives. They are easy to machine and can be used with split
nuts. The thread has an optimum efficiency of about 70% for helix angles between 25and 65
Outside this range the efficiency falls away.
A given size this is the strongest of the thread forms. When taking heavy loads on the
near vertical thread face this thread is almost as efficient as a square thread form.Buttress
threads are of a triangular shape. These are used where the load force on the screw is only
applied in one direction. [7] They are as efficient as square threads in these applications,
but are easier to manufacture.Large load carrying capability, Compact, Simple to design,
Easy to manufacture; no specialized A strong low friction thread. However it is designed
only to take large loads in on direction. For machinery is required, Large mechanical
advantage, Precise and accurate linear motion, Smooth, quiet, and low maintenance
Minimal number of parts, Most are self-locking
The motorized screw jack has been developed to cater to the needs of small and medium
automobile garages, which are normally man powered with minimum skilled labour. In most of
the garages the vehicles are lifted by using screw jack. This needs high man power and skilled
labour. In order to avoid all such disadvantages, the motorized jack has been designed in such a
way that it can be used to lift the vehicle very smoothly without any impact force. The operation
is made simple so that even unskilled labour can use it with ease. The D.C. motor is coupled with
the screw jack by gear arrangement The screw jack shaft’s rotation depends upon the rotation of
D.C motor. This is a simple type of automation project. This is an era of automation where it is
broadly defined as replacement of manual effort by mechanical power in all degrees of autom
ation. The operation remains to be an essential part of the system although with changing
demands on physical input, the degree of mechanization is increased. The jack’s screw rod is
fixed to the motor shaft, the motor gets power from the power source. The on/off switch keys are
interface with control circuit with power supply. And we are connecting the dc motor with the
mechanical model for the up and down movement when we press the ON & OFF switch. It will
send power to motor to rotate in right direction & it will rotate in opposite direction respectively.
Using this equipment we can easily access the lifting of load in various purpose of our need. By
alternating the motor with higher torque the jack can lift heavy load easily.
Concept evaluation is the process of ranking concepts to determine their relative merits. This
requires (1) a ranked set of criteria on which each concept is rated, (2) a reference design that is
used as a baseline and against which comparisons are made, and (3) a method by which to rank
concepts against the reference with respect to the criteria that is both effective and efficient. The
above three conept are evaluated by using decision matrix in the Bellow table.
