1. Why do you think were most intellectual ideas controversial?


These intellectual ideas were controversial because of what people perceive
or think are different from these ideas. It contradicts of what people
believed in. Everyone has their own belief and they want to fight for it.
2. Why did people accept these new discoveries despite being contradictory to
what was widely accepted at that time?
The people accept these new discoveries to deal this changing world.
Acquiring new skills, new inventions and etc. It also brings people a better
life and experiences.
3. How do intellectual revolutions transform societies?

Intellectual revolutions transform societies through developing


existing/new ideas to creating new opportunities to the world. New
knowledge that can fulfill the needs of people. Making the world
prosperous.

4. Can you name other scientific revolutions that happened in the following
places?
a. Meso-America – they believe in the cycle of planets and celestial beings like

the sun and moon. They also built observatories which helps in their

agricultural and architectural calculations. Rubber is also one of their

inventions.

b. Asia – China’s silk and gunpowder that widely used around the world.

c. Middle East – The Arabic numerals that are used in algebra and algorithms.
d. Africa – based on my research, the oldest tool that is made of stone is found in

Africa, which means Africa has been developing scientific inventions since

then.

CHAPTER 2: SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND NATION-BUILDING

1. Trace the development of science and technology from the pre-colonial


times up to the present. What have you observed?
From the pre-colonial period up to this present, science and technology has
been present since then. I have observed that the inventions are gradually
upgrading and changing due to its environment or the world. All of these
helps the people in their day-to-day activities.

2. What do you think are the major contributions of science and technology to
Philippine nation-building?
The major contributions of science and technology to Philippine nation-
building is its economic development. Creating new technologies makes
more money and improves the quality of life in any society.

3. What specific government policy do you like the most in terms of


contributing to the development of science and technology in the
Philippines?
For me, it is the policy about the importance of immunization. It helps to
prevent certain illnesses and diseases. It also has beneficial effects that
could help the well-being of the people of this country. Knowing of its
importance leads to developing its function.

4. What do you think are the major contributions of the Philippines to the field
at present?
It is the Salt lamp and Ejeepneys. Salt lamp is an environmentally friendly
light source that is powered by saltwater. Ejeepney uses electricity as a
power source. These inventions contribute to the world and especially the
environment.
5. What policies do you want the government to implement in the near future?
I only have one policy that I want to be implemented in the near future is
that government invest and providing necessary needs to develop the technologies
that are made here in the Philippines. Also, if it is made in the Philippines that
technology will not go to other countries. It should be finished and developed
here.
