MODULE 5 ASSIGNMENT 1

Comprehension Check-up

1. Which of the following Theories of Art and Beauty do you consider convincing and
relatable? Explain why.

The Psychoanalytic Theory is a theory that is based on psychoanalysis. Art is

described as an artist's expression of emotion or concept. Music or artwork, I believe,
often moves people, even though there is no simple science behind it. Being able to
communicate and understand the thoughts of another human being perceive and interact
with the methods they've used to communicate their feelings. There is something deeply
primordial that they feel at a certain stage in their lives. It is important to share your
feelings rather than keeping them bottled up. Feelings and express them through art.
Despite the fact that most people think of art as a form of expression, while it will seem to
be a poor career choice, you can still enjoy it in your spare time. Make sure you explore
and engage with artwork or music to discover what motivates you. Art is a powerful tool
for expressing the feelings, and there is no right or wrong way to do so. Simply find out
what works best for you.

2. Why do you think subscription to Hedonism as a central of life, will not work
successfully in the attainment of one’s ultimate happiness and high morality in life?

Yes, if it is responsible hedonism, it will be good in achieving one's ultimate

pleasure and high morality in life. Epicureanism's ancient Grecian philosophy is at the
core of responsible hedonism. Epicurus claimed that life is full of suffering, and that the
key to living a happier life is to be honest with yourself about what makes you happy. This
was dubbed "avoidance," or ataraxia, by him. Epicurus believed that living pleasurably
was the key to living a happy life, but that not all pleasures were created equal. Epicurus'
happiness scheme is definitely not without flaws.

I might say that some of my most rewarding experiences have come from
experiencing pain and hardship. Sadness and pain are signals that something good has
come to an end; if you care deeply for something, the only way you can experience pain

is if it has come to an end. If you follow Epicurus' theory to its logical conclusion, you will
find that you have never lived a satisfying life.

Regardless of my reservations about Epicurus, his belief system is worth

considering. Take the time to consider whether what you've been doing is helping you
avoid future discomfort when you're down. Do your job early; putting it off to another day
will not make it any less unpleasant. Even if it fails now, go to school because you know
it will make you smarter and more patient later in life.

3. Explain in a situation on how Aesthetic Conventionalism may have appropriate

application in a community or a society?

With the sponsorship of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and
Congresswoman Loren Legarda, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET) is putting
poverty at the core of its art this February. "Cue from Life Itself: Filipino Artists Transform
the Everyday," a new exhibition at the MET Manila, features work by contemporary artists
such as Poklong Anading, Yason Banal, and Alma Quinto.

It's critical that poverty isn't romanticized, and that the legitimacy of the misery it
causes isn't questioned. As Brenda Fajardo argues, the medium of such art must
therefore be genuine. Rather than framing poverty for the inquisitive eyes of curators and
art aficionados, the show aims to transform everyday objects into something with social
significance, something that will give people a better understanding of the quality of life
that comes with poverty.

4. How did Freud help to explain the theory, Aesthetic Psychoanalysis?

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) introduced psychoanalysis as a means of treating

psycho-neurotic abnormalities by focusing on the unconscious's effect on the mind and
actions.

The id, ego, and super-ego are the first two central structures in Freud's
psychoanalysis, whereas the unconscious, pre-conscious, and conscious are the second.
These serve as the skeleton from which all of Freud's other ideas are hung (e.g.
sublimation, repression, introjection)

5. Discuss particularly the Theories of Art and Beauty you adhere or subscribe to as
they are reflected in your life experiences in order to attain appreciation of life, art, and
beauty. Recall this great experience(s) then include a photo to represent such
experience(s).

I've come to the conclusion that embracing Aesthetic Functionalism is the best way
for me to appreciate life, art, and beauty. According to this theory, people are
characterized by their acts, which are dictated by the mind. Since our personality is
formed by our emotions, which shape our feelings, actions, and attitudes, the emphasis
here is on the mind and its ability to think and thinking is a vital part of gaining appreciation
for anything. It enables us to appreciate art in the way that it appeals to us and in the
context of what it means to each person. It explores the history of art and the stories
behind it, as well as the lives of the artists. It enables objective evaluation of a work on
the basis of design, mastery, and techniques. Above all, art appreciation promotes and
analyzes, allowing us to see beyond the obvious and open our eyes to other people's
perspectives.
