In the past, there were only just a few career options available. At present, varieties of career
options are available. When one chooses a career, it prepares him/her mentally for coping up
with the stress involved in pursuing the chosen career, it also works as a catalyst to start
doing the training of the basics of the chosen career. Besides the long-time demanding
careers like engineering, medicine, teaching, law etc., we have now comparatively new career
options like modelling, fashion designing, interior designing, online work, hotel management,
acting etc.
A lot of students are not very aware about the different career options/opportunities available.
The following write up is expected to give an idea about different career opportunities and
courses and help the students to choose the right courses/career paths.
(A) After passing Class-X/ Matriculation/ HSLC Exam a student may do any one of the
following courses -

regarded as optional and marks benefit is not given for this subject).
N.B.- Some Boards/Councils offer Library Science as a subject under Science Stream, Civics

4.(c) Dual Degrees: A dual degree program allows a student to complete two degrees in less
time which means saving of money and time on the part of the student. They also open up
better job options as the companies prefer candidates trained in different areas. Dual degrees
enable students to accelerate their learning in different subjects and are very well structured
for the benefit of students.

Examples of job opportunities:
Many courses themselves indicate the jobs/practices/professions like electrician, plumber,
welder, fitter, CA, CS, designer, videographer, draughtsmen, etc.
Jobs after passing Class X and XII - Jawans/ Sainiks (Defence Services), Angan Wadi
workers, Drivers, Plumbers, Grade IV employees (peons, chowkidars, etc.), even Clerks/
Assistants, Constables, etc. in the government/ private sectors. Class XII with diploma in
teaching/education is the minimum qualification for the post of primary school teachers.
Clerks, officers, managers, civil servants (ACS, IAS, IPS, etc.), in the government/private
sectors. Accountant, Financial Analyst, Financial Consultant, Account Executive, Jr
Accountant, Business Consultant, Accounts Manager, Business Executive, Tax Consultant,
etc. for Commerce graduates.
TGT – for secondary stage (general graduation + B.Ed.) and PGT – for higher secondary
stage in high schools/ higher secondary schools /KVs/ JNVs, etc. (general post-graduation +
B.Ed.),
Jobs for master’s degree holders (post-graduates): Clerks, officers, managers, etc. Asst.
Professors at degree colleges and universities (Master’s degree + NET/ SLET qualification).
M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree holders get bonus marks in the selection test/viva for the post of
Asst. Professors.
Bachelor’s in any discipline are eligible for civil services jobs (ACS/IAS/IPS, etc.) and other
jobs like IFS, IRS, etc.
Students doing bachelor’s/ master’s degree courses in medical sciences and law are eligible
for becoming medical officers and law officers respectively in govt./private sectors or they
may opt for private practice like those doing CA, CS, etc. courses.
