Materi KD 3 Kelas XI Invitation

The following are the social function, sturcture, and the characteristics of formal invitation that we
should know.

1. Social Function of Formal Invitation


a. To maintain interpersonal relationship in formal context.
b. To invite someone to formal and social events.
2. Sturcture of Formal Invitation
An invitation of requesting someone presence, stating the spesific event, and setting the
date, time, and place. The following is the general structure of formal invitation.
a. Logo
b. The name of the person/company/institution who invites.
c. The request for participation. For example, Request the pleasure of your company at ....
d. The occasion or event for the invitation.
e. The purpose of the event. For the example, In honor of thr school presidential election.
f. The date, time, and place of the occasion. Some invitation use complete format as the
example below.
Saturday, the twenty-five of Febriary.
At ten o’clock.
The place should include the street address and the building name.
g. Special instructions (if any). It is ususally written the bottom the right-hand corner of the
invitation.
h. The request for reply (R.S.V.P)

Example :

Base on the, invitation letters also consists of formal invitation letter and informal invitation
letter. A formal invitation letter may be written by school inviting parents for graduation ceremonies
or meeting. It has an important aspect. It is not allowed to use informal wordings. You should come
to the subject matter directly. An informal invitation letter may be written to invite someone for a
social function. It is usually friend welcoming and wholehearted. Informal invitation letters can make
the invitee feel special. His/her presence in the event is most awaited. There is no particular rule for
informal invitation letter, but the invitation letter must use a warm approach.

Characteristics of Formal Invitation

1. Formal invitation letters or cards should have the LOGO of the company at its letter head.

The LOGO is the organiazation or host’s logo or graphic at the top of the invitation.

2. Formal invitation letters or cards contain the address of the inviter and the invitee a well.

3. Formal invitation letters must have a professional appeal.

4. Formal invitation cards have a particular style, namely no salutation, complimentary close nor
