HOW TO: thrive in a remote
selling environment
Virtual selling is not a COVID fad, it is here to stay. Those days of
traipsing up the M6 to discuss business with a customer are long
gone. Customers’ expectations have changed, they are more open to
buying online. Research from McKinsey found as many as 80% of
B2B buyers would rather interact remotely when making purchasing
decisions. Let’s be frank about it, remote sales meetings are easier to
schedule, organise, and cheaper, a cost saving many businesses will
happily pocket at the moment.

You may be a pro at virtual selling or a relative beginner, but one

thing is certain, you will need to future proof and adapt your sales
approach in order to be successful selling virtually. So, how do you
achieve this?

One tip is to muffle extraneous sounds by covering the hard surface of the space around you with
curtains or a blanket. Secondly, if inviting guest speakers, always let them know the format and have a

And all of this is absolutely great! You

will start to get recognised, prospective
customers and clients will check you out…
BUT what happens when those prospects

the letter and the written words they see
don’t match your carefully created brand?

Think of a brand as a personality. For

example, your image branding suggests a
young, vibrant, energetic brand personality
- think Apple, Nike, Amazon - but your
copy is flowery, old fashioned and boring.
Or you have carefully cultivated a ‘high
end’ business brand - think Gucci, Chanel,
Cartier - but your copy is grammatically
poor and more representative of ‘hip hop’
than haute couture.

22
The problem is, first impressions count,
so if your words don’t match the brand
image you are trying to create, your
business will come across as confused
and inauthentic - as if you don’t know
who you are or what you are doing
(when of course you do…don’t you?).

So, how can you get

it right? How do you
create written content
that matches your
brand?

1.) Ensure you know what your brand

personality and message actually is - and if
you don’t know figure it out quickly!

2.) Whether you personally, or a contractor,

are responsible, ensure the written content
matches your brand personality across ALL
mediums…be consistent.

3.) Make sure you check your spelling and

grammar (all word processing applications
include spell and grammar checks…a top
tip is to use the ‘read aloud’ function as this
helps with the ‘flow’ of the words).

4.) DO NOT PLAIGARISE!

5.) Employ a specialist! (but of course as a

content writer I would say that wouldn’t I?)

Finally, always remember - words are very

powerful, so use them carefully!

5. Helps us sleep better
Write down or say out loud the things you are grateful for before you go to sleep. This will help to relax
the mind away from worries and stresses allowing you to focus on the good things.

6. Improves self-esteem
Being grateful can help us feel better about what we have in our lives and put a stop to unhealthy
comparisons. When you practice gratitude, you practice self-love, which is truly vital for a happy life.

7. Makes us kinder
People with a daily practice of gratitude become naturally kinder. A focus on gratitude in our own
lives opens our hearts to those in need, and gives us that positive boost and ability to extend our love
outwards.

8. Helps us reach our goals

Those who regularly make lists of things to be grateful for are more likely to achieve personal goals or
make faster progress in their career. Gratitude can connect us to our purpose, make us see what we are
capable of, give us more motivation, and the ability to find solutions to challenges.

9. Makes us feel more optimistic

Gratitude can make us feel happier, more optimistic, and more in control of the path we are on in life. A
feeling of optimism can infuse us with strength and determination to live our lives more purposefully.

10. Gives us perspective

When we start being grateful, we begin to think less of ourselves and more of others. We develop
compassion, empathy, and kindness to turn the focus away from our own lives and can see others with
more clarity.

Gratitude is a

The 2021
Inspirational
Man Edition
Back in March this year we ran a special edition
of MO2VATE magazine to celebrate International
Women’s Day. We asked our readers, and people on
social media platforms to nominate the Inspirational
Women in their lives, and then approached those
nominees to see if they would like to contribute an
article.

WOW! When we came up with this idea, we had NO

idea just how popular it would be - we were inundated
with wonderful articles, and it was almost impossible for
the team to select the final contributors. But we did, and
that particular edition was extremely popular, leading to
a spin off collaborative book - Stories from Around the
Globe - which will be published soon, and an incredible
live Zoom event where some of the authors read their
stories aloud.

It wouldn’t be fair to have an edition devoted to

inspirational women without creating one featuring
inspirational men, so we are planning a special ‘men
only’ issue to celebrate International Men’s Day in
November this year. We’re giving a long lead up time
to this particular edition because we’ve noticed that
men seem to be a little shy when it comes to submitting
articles!

48
What are we looking for?

Just as with the Inspirational Women’s

edition, we need YOU, our readers, to
nominate the inspirational men in your
life. They could be your husband or
partner, your brother or son, a friend,
or someone who you know who has
impressed you with their fortitude,
knowledge, life experience, and resilience.
Perhaps there’s a man in your life, or your
social circle, who has come through a
traumatic event and succeeded against all
the odds. A man who has built a business
on the back of a personal tragedy, or
turned their life around when it seemed as
though they were rock bottom destined
never to amount to anything.

Whatever their story, we would love to

read it, and we’re sure our readers would
too. With so many reports of the mental
health problems affecting men in the 21st
century, imagine how amazing it would be
for men, young, and not so young, to read
a magazine packed full of inspiring true
stories written by men just like them.

What you need to do!

Have a think - who could you nominate

and why? Then tag these remarkable men
on our social media, Facebook or LinkedIn,
or drop us an email or message giving the
name and contact details of the person
you nominate. Whoever submits an
article for this edition, is published and
subscribes, will receive their MO2VATE
seal of recognition, highlighting their
nomination as a 2021 MO2VATE
Inspirational Man. They can use this seal
across their own social media to help raise
their profile.

It’s a fabulous opportunity to celebrate

the men in all our lives, so get thinking, get
nominating and help the MO2VATE team
create an incredible and uplifting special
‘Inspiration Men’ edition this year.
