Instructions

4. Quality is more important than Quantity
5. Make use of diagrams, charts, figures, statistics wherever
possible.
6. Pay attention to the directives used in the question and write
answers accordingly. For example, “Discuss", “Comment",
“Elaborate".

1. Discuss in detail the Nehruvian era in Indian Politics.
2. Write a detailed note on regionalism and secessionism in India
giving suitable examples.
3. Comment on the role played by Caste in Indian politics in post-
independence period.
4. Analyze the contribution of women’s movement in women
empowerment.
5. Examine the determinants of India’s foreign policy.
6. Elaborate on coalition politics in India.

Additional points to remember


Introduction
1. Don’t give long introduction. It should serve as a gateway to
your answer. Do not write unnecessary content. Write relevant
introduction.
2. Different ways of beginning an introduction:
 Any issue in news that is associated with the question. For
eg. In question (4), The open naming and shaming of
perpetrators of violence on social media under the banner
of #MeToo movement has once again brought in focus the
issue of sexual harassment of women and in turn the role
of women’s movement in liberating women from the
shackles of patriarchy.
 Providing statistical information, quoting data or any
important report or survey. For instance: The 2011 Caste
Census states the population of ST and SC as 8% and 16.4
% respectively. The Mandal Commissions report of 1989
identified the presence of 3473 caste groups in India. This
only shows the presence of vast diversity in terms of caste
line in India.
 Any other important aspect that is associated with it. For
example, The foundation of India’s development was laid
in the initial years after the Independence and Pandit
Nehru played a significant role in it.
 Historical background: For eg. The origin of caste system
as per ancient Hindu tradition is linked with the Varna
system.
 And Most common way of beginning an introduction can
be by giving definitions.

Conclusion:
1. One good way can be by giving a summary of your entire
answer. For instance, Thus, its evident that Nehruvia era
laid the foundations of socio-economic and scientific
development in India.
2. Your opinion on that topic. For eg, Regionalism should be
considered as a legitimate expression in a democracy and
shall be accommodated within the constitutional and legal
framework as long as it is not Secessionists in nature.
3. Way Forward/ Solution oriented Conclusions

Not every answer can fit in this framework but usually comes to
rescue if you cannot think of some Additional points to fill up your
answer sheet.

1. Watch the following video on you tube, “The art of drawing
diagrams in CSE Mains by Ritika". Though originally the video
was made for UPSC answer writing, it is useful in general as
well.
2. In your Assignment specifically
 In Question (1), about Nehruvian era you can draw a rough
timeline from 1947 to 1964
 In Question (2), draw a rough map of India to highlight the
regions affected by secessionism, insurgency, Naxalism, or
demand for separate statehood etc.
 In Question (3), A diagrammatic representation
highlighting Four Varna system
 In Question (4), The lifestyle approach by UN in
highlighting the crimes against women.

Also, please note, that it is not possible to make use of


diagrams/charts in every answer due to paucity of time, or space
constraints or the demand of question etc But wherever it is possible,
do use it. It makes answer more presentable.
