Rules To Change Active To Passive Voice: Voices
Voice is that part of a verb which shows whether what is denoted by the subject does something or has something
done to it.
Voice is divided into two:-
1. Active Voice- A verb is in the Active Voice when it shows that the person or thing denoted by the subject does
something. Eg. He writes a letter.
2. Passive Voice- A verb is in the Passive Voice when it shows that something is done to the person or thing denoted
by the subject. Eg. A letter is written by him.
PRESENT TENSE
Simple Present Tense:- is /am/are + Past participle (3rd form) of the Verb.
PAST TENSE
Simple Past Tense:- was/were + Past participle of the Verb.
Eg. He broke the glass. ( Active Voice )
The glass was broken by him. ( Passive Voice)
FUTURE TENSE
Simple Future Tense:- will be/ shall be + Past Participle of the Verb.
If we have Can/ May/ Must in the Active Voice then their passive is formed by - can be/ may be/ must be + Past
Participle of the Verb.
