This standard provides guidelines for Malaysian organizations to effectively manage commuting safety for employees in a systematic way, with the goals of increasing awareness of road safety practices, recommending measures employers can take to mitigate commuting risks, and promoting safe driving and riding to work. It was developed in accordance with international traffic safety standards to help minimize risks and impacts of road accidents involving employee commutes.

Good practices in implementing commuting safety
management This standard prescribes good practices that can be adopted by organisations in Malaysia in managing their commuting safety management in a systematic and flexible manner. It highlights measures and initiatives that should be taken by employers to mitigate commuting risks to their employees.
This standard was developed with the objectives to:
Ÿ enhance awareness and knowledge on commuting safety management and road safety element in the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) at workplace; Ÿ recommend good practices to employers on how to appropriately and effectively implement commuting safety management in order to minimise the risk of road crashes or minimise impact in the event of a road crash; Ÿ promote awareness among employers and employees on safe riding and driving while commuting to work; and Ÿ support the implementation of road traffic safety management based on MS ISO 39001:2013.
