Department
Engineering Department
• Based in Perth at H-E Parts Crushing Solutions AU head office;
• Team consists of 9 Mechanical Engineers and 6 Draftspersons.
• Utilizes AutoDesk Inventor as primary CAD Package, also:
– AdvanceSteel structural work,
– Vault drawing management system,
– Rocky DEM simulations,
– SigmaNEST plate nesting, and
– Polyworks Scan processing and development.
• Main Focus of Department:
– Crusher Liner Development,
– Reverse Engineering and Improvement of Crusher Spares,
– Wear Plate Optimization and Mapping
• Chutes
• Deflectors
• TLO’s

Capturing geometric data
Surphaser Laser Scanner

• Great for larger items like chutes, crusher liners, etc;


• Accuracy of 0.3mm – 0.5mm (with 40m range);

FARO Arm Coordinate System

• Best for machined surfaces and high tolerance


components;
• Accuracy better than Laser Scanner (0.02mm –
0.03mm);
• Range restricted on Arm length (Faro Platinum 1.8m;
Faro Edge 2.4m);
• Need to be within operating distance of laptop
during scanning;
• Only gives profile outline of part in specific plane;
• Needs direct contact with part

Overview of H-E Parts Engineering Liner
Development Product Support Service
• Site conditions, plant setup, crusher settings, application, and
customer requirements vary from site to site and as such no one
liner fits all. H-E Parts engineering team design customized liners
to optimize liner performance and meet individual customer
requirements.
• Designs are validated and optimised with the use of H-E Parts
proprietary wear simulation & crusher modelling software
ChamberVision. This allow H-E Parts to test the effects of
modifications, and design liners to achieve specific performance
targets.
• In order to reverse engineer liners and obtain site specific wear
data for the purpose of analysis and development, H-E Parts
implement the use of specialise measuring equipment:
- Surphaser Laser Scanner
- Faro Arm
• H-E Parts offers ongoing liner development and wear monitoring
free as part of our product support service

ChamberVision Wear Modelling

• ChamberVision Wear Modelling:


H-E Parts advanced wear modelling capabilities
allow us to tell users what their concave and
mantle thicknesses are (and general chamber
shape) at any point of the liner’s life. This allows
H-E Parts to accurately project change-out
dates, optimise liners to reduce material
wastage, and design liners to suit particular
shut-down schedules.

Wear Monitoring
As part of our product support service, H-E Parts continues to conduct and process worn scans in order to assist
the end user in monitoring the performance of our product, and help identify any potential issues or
improvements at the earliest stage so corrective action can be taken if necessary – typical in-situ scan (scanned
with mantle in position) shown below:

CrusherVision® Performance Modelling
• Our advanced crusher performance simulation software allows
us to test and valid design modifications ahead of time to
provide a high degree of confidence that they will perform as
expected
• Providing predictions of:
- Throughput
- Power draw
- Prediction of crushed product distribution
- Scenario testing to estimate the effects of changing
machine parameters such as speed and eccentric throw
- Design-stage analysis tools to prevent issues such as chamber
packing

Primary crusher liners
Typical improvement goals

H-E Parts has standard methods for improving the following with different designs:

– Increasing tonnage rate

– Decreasing power draw

– Changing CSS or providing greater flexibility

– Increasing concave life

– Increasing mantle life

– Removing undesirable wear patterns in the concaves

– Decreasing the risk of concave failure due to cracking

– Addressing ring bouncing issues

‘M6’ Premium 21% Manganese

• M6 is our premium proprietary grade manganese steel, comprising of 21% manganese &
high carbon content
• The increased manganese acts as an austenitic stabiliser, allowing a higher carbon content
in solution & greater work-hardening ability – leading to a higher work hardening rate and
generally harder work-hardened layer.
• The heat treatment and quenching process is absolutely crucial to the success of this
process
• Typically provides 25-35% life increase when compared to OEM 14%, and 20-25% when
compared to OEM 18%

Manganese steel with Titanium Carbide Inserts

• Our metal matrix composite liners (MMC) incorporate titanium carbide inserts which are
cast into 18% manganese liners to increase wear residence - inserts provide a hardness of
about 630 Brinell.
• Initial trial’s have achieved a life increase of 100% in jaw liners, and we are now waiting on
a number of cone liner trials which are due to commence over the next 6 months

Lifting Jaw Liners Safely

• Lifting Arrangement – ‘Safe-T Lift’


– H-E Parts offer a specialised lifting device called ‘Safe-T’. This device
was developed in response to safety issues assisted with welding lugs
onto the crusher liners.
– H-H Parts use a range of these device extensively across Australia,
ranging from small jaw to jaws in excess of 12 Tonne.
– All lifting components used are designed and proof load tested to
Australian standards AS4991-2004 (Lifting Devices)

Lifting Cone Liners Safely

• Lifting Arrangement – ‘Locklift’


– H-E Parts offer a specialised lifting device
called ‘Locklift’. This device was
developed in response to safety issues
assisted with welding lugs onto the
crusher liners.
– H-E Part’s LockLift range of mantle lifters
are utilised with H-E Parts’s crusher liners
to allow the liner to be lifted from three
rated points. All styles utilise a jacking
arrangement to separate the head and
mantle before lifting, to ensure that a
fully controlled lift takes place.
– All lifting components used are designed
and proof load tested to Australian
standards AS4991-2004 (Lifting Devices)

to Client to indicate areas of concern by means of weather maps.
• Valued tool if throughput and duration is known.
• Also highlights areas for design improvement.

Basic Preliminary proposal:


•Machine make, model and size
•Primary Development goal
•OSS & Throw (or CSS)
•OEM numbers, or our part numbers if supplied by H-E Parts
•Current liner life cycle used (ie. 2x same size mantles to a concaves set, or 1x std size
and 1x oversize mantle to a concave set)
•Existing life of concaves, and life of individual mantles used if more than 1
•If we are not familiar with the particular machine (ie. we don’t have drawings or cavity
geometry) then we will need scans and a site manual

Additional information for full proposal with wear modelling:


•Scans of worn concaves and a scan of at least one of the mantles used during the life of
the worn concaves (if we don’t have original profiles then we’ll need to obtained these
too)
•Tonnes process by concave and tonnes process by each mantle used during the life
span of the concaves
