nine or ten years o' a!e an+ still wrappe+ in chil+hoo+ innocence.

A new 'amily ha+ mo3e+ into a rente+ home in o(r nei!hborhoo+ (st be'ore the
holi+ays. They ha+ e5perience+ some 'inancial +i''ic(lties an+ ha+ 3ery 'ew material
possessions. y mother an+ a 'ew 'rien+s learne+ o' their nee+ an+ +eci+e+ to pro3i+e
them with a little %hristmas blessin!.

One sister was !i3en the assi!nment o' bein! the +i3ersion. She in3ite+ the new 'amily
to her home 'or +inner. The other conspirators were pro3i+e+ with a 0ey to their home
an+ abo(t one ho(r to wor0 their ma!ic. By +i3i+in! the wor0$ they co(l+ complete the
tas0 in the allotte+ time. 3en tho(!h was 7(ite yo(n!$ was permitte+ to accompany
my mother an+ the other la+ies. remember that as we entere+ the home$ it seeme+
empty$ col+ an+ +ar0.

We set to wor0. A co(ple o' sisters ha+ the opport(nity o' stoc0in! the 0itchen. They
be!an placin! canne+ !oo+s in the c(pboar+s an+ perishable items in the re'ri!erator.

eanwhile$ we be!an in the li3in!8room. First we set (p a lar!e %hristmas tree. Li!hts$
balls an+ tinsel ma!ically appeare+ to +ecorate the tree. They loo0e+ 3ery 'amiliar.
other sprea+ a tree s0irt that she ha+ ma+e 'or o(r 'amily (n+er the tree an+ we
place+ o(r wrappe+ !i'ts on top.

Within that ho(r the 0itchen was stoc0e+$ the li3in!8room was +ecorate+ an+ presents
laye+ o(t. We slippe+ o(t into the +ar0 winter ni!ht$ lea3in! behin+ the li!hts !lowin!
on the tree.

lon!e+ to see the chil+ren9s 'aces when they ret(rne+ home that ni!ht. B(t that wo(l+
spoil the miracle as they wo(l+ learn who their bene'actors ha+ been.
