- Proper survey of site location for proposed crossing.

carry the required load under all operating conditions.

5.02 33 kV POWER CABLE

The 33kV power cable shall be designed, manufactured and tested in accordance
with the requirements of COMPANY Materials Standard Specifications 11-SDMS-
03(Latest) and associated Data Schedules. In addition, the 33kV cable manufacturers
shall fully comply with production quality requirements as per AEIC CS 9 (06).

5.14 BACKFILL MATERIALS
A. All earthwork and asphalt materials and all other necessary materials within the
APPROVED COMPANY facilities shall conform to the requirements specified in the COMPANY
BY: Construction Specifications for Earthwork TCS-Q-113.02 and Specification for
Asphalt TCS-Q-113.01.
C. All backfill materials shall be furnished from a source accepted by the COMPANY
REPRESENTATIVE. Acceptance of a backfill source shall not mean automatic
acceptance of all material obtained from the source, and the COMPANY
REPRESENTATIVE may withdraw approval of the source at any time that
materials produced by the source are not suitable for backfill. If suitable, excavated
material can also be used for backfill.
A. All materials to be used within the jurisdiction of the RIYADH Municipality shall
conform to their specific requirements. It is the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR
to coordinate with Government/Municipality Departments regarding all the required
approvals.
3. The CONTRACTOR shall try as much as possible not to have crossings over the
existing utilities. In case of such crossing, a clearance of 1 meter (minimum) shall be

accepted. The Fiber Optic generally has wood cable reels with wooden lagging.

A. General Requirements
The 33kV underground cable circuits shall be in sand duct banks, direct buried in a
trench and in concrete encased duct banks. The physical requirements of the trenches
and concrete encased duct bank shall be in accordance with the COMPANY’S
Engineering Standards TES-P-104.05, TCS-P-104.06 respectively. The COMPANY
CERTIFIED Construction Standard TCS-P-104.03 shall be followed for the construction of cable

In areas where high water table causes the trench to become flooded, the trench shall
be cleared by either pumping or installation of a well point system depending upon

sealed at both ends by using duct sealing units.

B. Preparation of Trench
1. The trench bottom and walls shall be carefully inspected; all rocks and other
rough materials shall be removed.
2. The trench depth shall be increased in areas where underground utilities cross

transition of the cable under the utility shall be carried out gradually. A split

3. Where trenching is taking place in existing roads, shoring is required. Steel
plates shall be provided. Shoring shall extend from the trench bottom to a point
above grade level. The shoring shall be adequately braced so that it remains
rigidly in place.

2. The cable drum can be positioned directly on the flat-bed trailer as long as

equipped with a braking mechanism and aligned at the proper position for

wire rope through a properly sized swivel and shackle.

the drum rotating speed shall be controlled with a simple wooden brake. The
pulling speed must be kept stable.
6. Watchmen are to be maintained at each duct entrance / exit along the
route so that when the cable leading end arrives, it can be directed into
the duct without dragging the duct walls.
7. The cable shall be pulled continuously from the upper side of the drum in the
direction indicated on the cable drum.

securely fastened at each splice and at each termination point. Appropriate
information shall include the phase and source/destination addresses, feeder
number and voltage level.
After laying the power cables, a minimum 500 mm layer of fine, granular,
uncontaminated sand shall be applied to cover the cable. The sand shall exhibit a

soil thermal resistivity of not more than 1.2 Km/W. It shall be the CONTRACTOR’S
responsibility to test the soil thermal resistivity and verify to the satisfaction of

After applying 500 mm layer of fine, granular, uncontaminated sand above the power

3. Warning Tape
A traffic yellow color (RAL 1023) warning tape shall be supplied on rolls

Warning posts shall be provided in all open area throughout the cable routes
except on road crossings and conflict. The installation of the warning post shall
be in accordance to COMPANY Engineering Standard TES-P-104.05.

schedule of testing. The CONTRACTOR shall engage the services of an
independent testing agency acceptable to the COMPANY, to conduct verification
tests of in-place density at an average interval of 400 meters along trenches, if so
requested by the COMPANY and as dictated by municipality authorities. This
testing will be conducted by the COMPANY approved testing agency as dictated by
Municipality Authorities.

minimum distance between two consecutive clamps shall be 500mm and maximum

The fastening of the cable clamps can be adopted in all local conditions. The
clamping area shall be wide to reduce the mechanical stress on cable. All cable
clamps shall be easily securely mountable. Cable clams shall be well designed to be
used for short circuit proof mounting of single or multi core cables in flat or trefoil

Failure of any cable and/or component during installation or testing shall cause the
faulty cable and/or component to be unacceptable until all test results are reviewed
and corrective action taken. To minimize failures at final testing, the
CONTRACTOR should physically check and test the cable in segments during
installation preferably before back filling the cable trench.
BY: During excavation in built-up city areas, access shall be provided to public and
private properties by providing suitable bridges for both pedestrian and vehicular
traffic. The COMPANY is not responsible for any result of accident due to
construction of this access.

4.02 INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC JOINT BOXES
This 4-way type joint box shall be used in locations known as transition or
gantry structures where the incoming OPGW cable (at the BSP, P/P and
Substation end) will terminate with the underground fiber optics cable at the
site. Cable Glands (minimum of four each) shall be supplied for this joint box,
with two cable glands provided for the incoming underground fiber optics cable
(which will enter at the bottom of the joint box and cable glands fitted with a
reduction adapter to mate with the incoming flexible conduit to provide a
watertight connection) and two cable glands provided for the incoming OPGW
cable (cable glands located on the side of the Joint Box, providing a watertight
