Fluxus Long long ago, back when the world was young_ that is,

sometime around the year 1958__ a lot of artists and

1962-1978 composers and other people who wanted to do beautiful
things began to look at the world around them in a new
way (for them).
They said: "Hey!__coffee cups can be more beautiful that
fancy sculptures. A kiss in the morning can be more
dramatic than a drama by Mr. Fancypants. The sloshing of
my foot in my wet boot sounds more beautiful than fancy
organ music."

And when they saw that, it turned their minds on. And they
began to ask questions. One question was: "Why does
everything I see that's beautiful like cups and kisses and
sloshing feet have to be made into just a part of something
fancier and bigger? Why can't I just use it for its own
sake?"

When they asked questions like that, they were inventing

Fluxus.
Fluxus

• George Maciunas was the (non) movement's founder and the one who named
the group/movement "Fluxus" The name derived from the Latin word that
denotes a continuous passing or flowing, suggests the fluidity between media
that marks the artistic activity of the period. This marked a continuation of the
blurring and dissolution of conventional forms of art that had .begun early in
the century with such movements as Futurism, Dada, and Russian
Constructivism and that had reemerged at mid-century in a diversity of
movements, groups, chance operations, Happenings, object music, concept art,
and Fluxus.

Nam June Paik
Paik was a pioneer in early video art. His work was
sculptural, highly technical and commented on our
attraction and obsession with media.
Nam June Paik influence can be seen in contemporary electronic
art like Alan Rath’s remarkable computer constructions.
