CE120 Module Exam 2

The document contains details of a stadia survey conducted at points A, B, C, D, E, and F. It also provides the stadia interval, vertical angle, and rod readings recorded at each point. It includes questions about calculating the stadia interval factor, horizontal distance DE, and elevation difference between E and F. The document also includes a table with point locations and stadia readings and questions about calculating actual distances. Additional questions involve determining values for a closed traverse including included angle, length, balanced departure, and total area. The final questions cover definitions related to reduced level, long chord of a curve, using double parallel distance to determine area of a closed traverse, the principle behind st

CE120-02 ME2_Module Exam

Traversing Principles, Stadia Tacheometric Survey, Route Surveying and Simple Curves, and
Earthworks.

Question 1

A survey party proceeded to do their stadia survey work as follows. The transit was set up
at A and with the line of sight horizontal, took rod readings at points B and C which is 300
m and 80 m, respectively.

With rod at B the stadia interval was recorded to be 3.001 m and with the rod at C the
stadia interval was recorded to be 0.800 m. The distance from the instrument to the
principal focus was recorded to be 0.30 m. Then they went to survey other points with
some of the data recorded as follows with the transit at point D, the two points E and F
were sighted.

Rod at E
 Stadia interval = 2.25 m
 Vertical angle = +4º30’
Rod at F
 Stadia interval = 3.56 m
 Vertical angle = -3º30’

making a deflection angle of 8o with the tangent through PC.

Question 10

A roadway is to be designed on a level terrain. This roadway is 150 meters in length. Four
cross sections have been selected, one at 0 meters, one at 50 meters, one at 100 meters,
and one at 150 meters. The cross sections, respectively, have areas of 40 square meters, 42
square meters, 19 square meters, and 34 square meters. What is the volume of earthwork
needed along this road? Final answer in whole number.
