Introduction:
The main goal of the proposed work is to improve the Bus system by adding the necessary additional
features into the application, like accurate bus timings, correct bus numbers and moreover adding a
GPS tracker into it. This study accepts input in the form of selection of the source and destination and
selection of the bus travelling the distance to display the entire details about the routes and also track
the location of the respective bus and give the map for the same.
Rationale:
Among all public transportation services, bus service is the major transportation
used by public. Especially in a busy town or city, bus is the most easy, convenient and
cheaper transportation. Various reasons that people take bus instead of driving own
vehicle such as traffic jam, heavy parking fee and lack of parking slot in destination. However, bus
transportation service has very poor transportation information system nowadays. In order to solve these
problems and enhance current bus service system, real time bus tracking system has to develop and
implement. With real time bus tracking system, bus position data is connected real time and transmitted
to a central server for processing and extracting transit information.
Aim:
The proposed system is aim to enable real time bus position tracking and build a
real time platform to enhance communication between bus user and bus management
team.
Course outcome:
In proposed system, a real time platform is developed between people and bus
management team. With this platform, people will able to check on real time bus arrival
time for particular bus stop and latest or updated bus traffic information.
Skill developed:
• Get knowledge of software Engineering.
• Problem-solving skills.
Literature:
Bus transportation service is every way, but without a good bus management
system, bus service may not fully utilize. In our country, majority bus service providers
are not performing real time bus tracking. They only provide scheduled timetable which
is not accurate in real time.
However, there is a University in Malaysia successfully implemented real time
bus tracking system. In oversea countries, there are many university implemented real
time tracking system for shuttle bus service. Thus, studies are performed on the bus
tracking system implemented by Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia, Northern
Illinois University (NIU) located in USA and Rice University in Texas, USA.
Moreover, in order to understand more about current bus tracking system
technology. Study also performed on Singapore Bus Service (SBS) Transit. It provided
an application called Intelligence Route Information System (iris NextBus) for Singapore
bus users to find out estimated bus arrival time. Iris NextBus also available in mobile
application and study is emphasized on it mobile application.
Besides, studies are also performed on technologies involved and methodology
applies in the proposed system.
EXISTING SYSTEM:
There are many existing platforms and applications that are used to assist commuters
plan their travel uses mobile data for the connectivity and communication and GPS to get the
real-time location of the bus (or other means of transport) relative to the commuter. There are
solutions that offer a limited accuracy in metropolitan cities.
However, these solutions are not available to the other cities and also, they rely on
historical data to provide information. The Intelligent Transport System (ITS)s based
solutions can be studied to overcome these pitfall, would help the commuter to effectively
utilize the public transport which includes lower waiting time. There are many
implementations of Intelligent Transport System all around the world, each solution designed
to address a specific demographic region. There are existing solutions like tram TRACKER
by Yarra Technologies in Melbourne, Australia and Google Maps is always there to cater the
needs of the metropolitan commuters. The components of ITS Technologies are the wireless communication
like WiFi, WiMAX, RFID, etc. and computational technologies like AI, Realtime data processing, etc. The
solution is also loosely based on the Floating car data, which is based on the collection of position, speed and
direction of travel of the vehicles from mobile phones with a two-way communication of GPS enabled vehicles
with Smartphone based applications. The task of computing the shortest path of travel is computed with Dijkstras
Algorithm the optimizations done are discussed in section III. Communication protocol used to develop this
prototype uses 3G for internet connectivity with MQTT[5,6] for message passing from the bus to the commuters.
MQTT enables the bus to interact with the commuter directly

PURPOSE OF PROJECT :
Due to over population, there is a need for efficient public transportation system. There is increased
burden on public transportation like bus just because of population. Therefore remote user needs a smart
system which provides real time information of bus. So we proposed a new system which solves the
drawback of current public transportation system. So our system handle all the data like current location
of bus, management of buses. It provides current location of bus on google maps to the remote user. For
development purpose technologies like GPS(Global Postioning System),GPRS(General Packet Radio
Service)and google maps are used. LOCATION- BASED services are increasingly important for modern
mobile devices such as the Smartphone. An important feature of a modern mobile device is that it can
position itself. Not only for use on the device but also for remote applications that require tracking of the
device. Furthermore, tracking has to robustly deliver position updates when faced with changing
conditions such as delays due to positioning and communication, and changing positioning accuracy.
The realized system tracks pedestrian targets equipped with GPS-enabled devices.

Conclusion:
While waiting for a bus, people may felt impatient and anxious if he or she does
not know when the bus will arrive. For the bus management side, it is very difficult to
provide an accurate schedule for bus user due to some uncertainties may happen on the
road such as traffic jam or bus break down. When a bus is delayed, bus management
side should inform bus user immediately. However, they do not have a platform inform
bus user in real time about the latest bus traffic status.
In order to enhance bus system and increase the performance of bus service
provider, the bus tracking system is needed. Bus tracking system provided a real time
platform for bus user to check on bus traffic status in anytime and anywhere. It also
provided a platform for bus service provider to monitor bus status and update latest
information to user.
