Introduce yourself
I’m Catherine Perez, 27 years old, I studied at National University and graduated in 2015 with a degree in Civil
Engineering. After graduation, I was hired at PAR Construction as a Site Engineer and after a year I was hired at
New San Jose Builders, Inc. as a Quantity Surveyor and my current employer is Baldo Construction and
Development Corp. I’ve been there for almost 2 years and it was challenging because the management
implemented a work reduction to their employees. It was tough because I need a stable job to provide the
needs of my family in this time of pandemic.
But I have a great experience in my past employers. I run out of room to grow and I’m looking for new
opportunities and try new challenges. Now, I’m taking my master’s degree in Public Administration at
President Ramon Magsaysay State University. I was very excited to learn new things and enhanced my
knowledge in your company with the help of my supervisor and co-workers. If I have given the chance to work
with you, it’s my first time working with other nationality for my entire career. And I’m sure that my career
path is in good hands.
Greatest Strength
My greatest strength is FLEXIBILITY, I find that this is very important when I’m working with lots of different
people and opinions.
Greatest Weakness
My greatest weakness is PUBLIC SPEAKING, it’s something that I’ve spent a lot of time working on and which
I’ve improved great deal. I’m very comfortable with small meeting with my co-workers but when I present an
idea or concept to a large audience, I still experience some stage fright.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor
As a Quantity Surveyor I am responsible for:
 Preparing bill of quantities which involves quantity take-off

 Provide accurate/comprehensive quantity take-off
 Checking of drawings to ensure the completeness of tender documents including requesting
of drawings and information.
 Reading of tender documents and specifications for architectural and civil measurements.
 Perform automated calculation for basic quantity like Concrete volume, formworks area, rebar
quantity incorporating respective density.
 Able to track changes, record variations and perform checks on the take-offs.
Step by Step in Estimating

You need to figure out what type of services you have to offer, what COST will be involved in
completing the tasks, what’s the COMPLETION DATE, and the CLIENT’S EXPECTATION.
 Review plans, specifications and addendum

 Measure quantities using Digital Software (PlanSwift, BlueBeam etc.)
 Add heavy equipment cost
 Add a percentage of waste
 Add labor and materials cost or man hours
 Add a percentage of contingencies
 Add profit margin
 Add travel expenses (if any)
 Add project Exclusion and Inclusions
 Submit your Bid by due date
