From your
When rounding to the nearest 10 you need to look at the last digit;
the units’ digit, and use the rules of rounding:
1 22 rounds down to
20
2 134 round down to 130
3 503 rounds down to 500
4 1196 rounds up to 1200
5 33,998 rounds up to 34,000
Remember: that 5x ÷ 2 means
5 times the value of x, and then divide the answer by 2
x 2 10 20 12 6 8
5x ÷ 2 5 25 50 30 15 20
a) When x = 10 5x = 50 5x ÷ 2 =
6 25
7 b) When 5x ÷ 2 = 50 5x = 50 x 2 x= 100 ÷ 5 = 20
8 c) When x = 12 5x = 60 5x ÷ 2 = 30
9 d) When x = 6 5x = 30 5x ÷ 2 = 15
10 e) When 5x ÷ 2 = 20 5x = 40 x = 40 ÷ 5 = 8
11 Half a circle should be drawn as:
15 30 goals were scored in the first week and we know that the
average goals scored in 2 weeks was 25 goals
So 30 + = 25 20 goals
2 scored
Multiply by 2: 30 + = 50 So = 20 in 2nd week
22 x 60 = 1320 1408
22 x 4 = 88
22 x 64 = 1408
=1
17/5 = 34/10
34 - 24 = 10
10 10 10
29 43 = 4 x 4 x 4 = 64
30 302 = 30 x 30 = 900
Apples = £1.08
Oranges = £0.40
Bananas = £0.40 £17.37
Rope = £0.75
£2.63
£20 – £2.63 =
4b + 4 = 40 b=9
• (- 4 from both sides) 4b = 36
• (÷ both sides by 4)
43 b x b x b is the same as b3 so b3 = 64
b=4
If you know your cube numbers, 4 x 4 x 4 = 64 so
8b – 2 = 6b + 14 (+2)
8b = 6b + 16
Now remove the smallest amount of b (6b) from both sides b=8
by (- 6b)
46 50 Before you can order the lengths, convert them into the same units:
0.5km (x 1000) = 500m (x 100) = 50,000cm
300cm = 300cm
6005mm (÷ 10) = 600.5cm
600m (x100) = 60,000cm
5 miles = 8km = 8000m = 800000cm
(you need to learn that 5miles = 8km)
