Academic Writing Rules and Regs
Students’ final grades will be based on the grades they receive throughout the semester in the
following areas:
When giving a particular student their final grade, the teacher also takes into account their active
participation in class discussions throughout the semester, their active contribution to exercises done
in class throughout the semester, as well as their general attitude to the subject.
If a student misses a short test or an in-class written assignement, they are obliged to write it next
time they are present in class (unless they are absent from school for longer than a week, in which
case, the school statute regulations apply).
If a student is absent from class, they are obligated to make up for the missed material on their own
(e.g. by contacting their classmates or the teacher) and come to the next class prepared, with their
homework and/or assignment completed (unless they are absent from school for longer than a
week, in which case, the school statute regulations apply).
If a student is absent from school on the day when a home-written assignment is due, they are
obligated to hand it in next time they are present in class.
A student has a right to re-take both home-written and class-written assignments after being given
feedback from the teacher if the grade is 2 or lower.
Being unprepared
Every student has a right to report being unprepared two times during the semester. They are
obliged to report it at the beginning of the class. Reporting that they are unprepared allows the
students to not present their homework without any consequences. It does not, however, exempt
the student from submitting a home-written assignment (either a short or a long one) and from
writing a short preannounced test.
Not presenting homework will result in a failing grade (unless the student reports at the beginning of
the class that they are unprepared).
Not submitting home-written assignment (either a short or a long one) will result in a failing grade.
Other rules
Using mobile phones during the class is absolutely forbidden and will result in the phone being taken
to the headmaster’s office by the teacher. The first two times, the student will be allowed to retrieve
the phone on their own at the end of the day. The third their parents will be asked to come and
retrieve it.
