1. Fertility Rate:

Year and Country Fertility Rate

1998 Philippines 3.89 births per woman

2018 Philippines 2.58 births per woman

2020 Philippines 2.5 births per woman

Source:
Philippine statistics authority. (2010, March 29). 1998 National Demographic and Health Survey - Fertility |
https://psa.gov.ph/content/1998-national-demographic-and-health-survey-fertility
Interpretation:

In 2020, fertility rate for Philippines was 2.5 births per woman. Over the last 22 years, fertility rate of Philippines
was declining at a moderating rate to shrink from 3.89 births per woman in 1998 to 2.5 births per woman in 2020.

Plan / Goal / Intervention:

The acceptable fertility rate is 2.1 births per woman, which means that Philippines’ fertility rate in 2020 still high
fir a normal rate of a population. Common approaches for lowering the fertility rate include: (1) empowering
women by educating them and allowing them to access to reproductive health services, which allow them to have
the knowledge they need in terms of reproduction which also allow them to escape poverty. (2) Promoting the
use of Incentives, which are intended to encourage responsible parenting. (3) Family Planning, the promotion of
Family planning should limit every family to have two children unless they are poor.

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.TFRT.IN?most_recent_value_desc=true&year_high_desc=true

Interpretation:

In same year 2021, it shows that Philippines which ranked 74 in all countries with 2.6 rate has the highest fertility
rate among U.S who ranked 143 with a rate of 1.7 and India ranked 98 with 2.2 rates.

Plan / Goal / Intervention:

Even though contraception use has risen in the Philippines, traditional contraceptive techniques are still widely
used. It is critical to reduce the fertility rate in developing countries to eradicate global poverty. One common
intervention include: (1) Reducing requirements of children to improve support for the elderly. (2) Reduced early
marriage rates, early marriage contributes to population growth by raising fertility, as they tend to have children
sooner and can bear more offspring over their lives than those who marry later. (3) Welfare payments/Pensions, if
a state had large pension plans, a couple would not need to have children to give effective retirement support.
