MPDr Connection Guide

MPDR QUICK START GUIDE 

1. Connect the USB‐to‐Serial adapter to an open USB port. 
2. On the Desktop, right click on the “computer” icon and 
select “properties”. 

 
            

3. Select “Device Manager”. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
   
 
4. Under “Ports (COM & LPT) find your USB‐to‐serial 
adapter.  
 
Take note of the assigned COM port. In the example 
below, COM3 is assigned. 
 

            

 
5. Open MPDr. 
 
If this is the first time you’ve opened MPDr you will be 
asked to set the communication (COM) port. 
 
Click on “Yes" 
 
 
 
   
 
6. Use the drop down menu to select the communication 
port identified in step 4. 
 
After the communication port is set, you must only use 
this USB port. 
 
7. Proceed to machine connection using the appropriate 
cables as instructed in the remainder of this connection 
  guide. 

CHANGING THE COMMUNICATION (COM) PORT 

 
1. Select “Option” 
 
 
   
2. Select “Communication port” 
3. Select “Change” 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
4. Select the communication port from the drop down 
menu and select “Yes”. 
 

 
ZAXIS‐6 / G SERIES (FT4) EXCAVATORS 

MC/ECM CONNECTION 

Model Selection: Select “ZX‐6(G‐series) > MC/ECM” under the appropriate excavator ton size. 

Connection Point: Connect to 6‐pin diagnostic port in fuse box. 

Cable Selection: 

Option 1 (recommended):           Option2: 

DCU (DOSING CONTROL UNIT) Isuzu engines only 

Model Selection: Select ZX‐6(G‐series) > DCU under the appropriate excavator ton size. 

Cable Selection:                                                                              Connection Point: Connect to the 8‐pin diagnostic port usually found 
behind the cab. 

             
ZAXIS‐5 / G SERIES (IT4, STAGE 3A, STAGE 2) EXCAVATORS 
Model Selection: Select “ZX‐5(G‐series)” under the appropriate excavator ton size. 

Connection Point: Connect to 6‐pin diagnostic port in fuse box. 

Cable Selection: 

Option 1 (recommended):           Option2: 

ZAXIS‐3 / D SERIES EXCAVATORS 
Model Selection: Select “ZX‐3(G‐series)” under the appropriate excavator ton size. 

Connection Point: Connect to 6‐pin diagnostic port in fuse box. 

Cable Selection:

ZAXIS‐1 / C SERIES EXCAVATORS 
Model Selection: Select “ZX‐1(C‐series)” under the appropriate excavator ton size. 

Cable Selection: 

MCX CONNECTION 

Connection Point: Connect to 4‐pin diagnostic port in fuse box. 

Special Instructions: For monitoring, connect with the engine learning switch OFF. For function settings (service mode), connect with 
the engine learning switch ON. 

ICX CONNECTION (DATA DOWNLOAD)  

Connection Point: Connect to 4‐pin diagnostic port under armrest. 

 
FORESTERS AND SWING MACHINES 

ZAXIS‐3 AND D‐SERIES 

Connect using Zaxis‐1 / C‐series excavator instructions 

ZAXIS‐6 AND G‐SERIES 

Connect using Zaxis‐6 / G series (FT4) excavator instructions
