Descriptive Title: Computer System Servicing

Learning Outcome: At the end of this lesson, you will learn how build, install, and configure
computer systems.

Module 3: Installation of Hardware Components of Computer System.

Building the Computer


Install the Motherboard
Follow these steps for motherboard installation:

 Align the I/O connectors on the back of the motherboard with the openings in the
back of the case.
 Align the screw holes of the motherboard with the standoffs or holes stand.
 Insert all of the motherboard screws.
 Tighten all of the motherboard screws.
Connect the Power Cables
Motherboard Power Connections
Follow these steps for motherboard power cable installation:

 Align the 24-pin ATX power connector with the socket on the motherboard.
 Gently press down on the connector until the clip clicks into place.
 Align the 4-pin AUX power connector with the socket on the motherboard.
 Gently press down on the connector until the clip clicks into place.

Power Connectors
Follow these steps for power connector installation:

 Plug the SATA power connector into the optical drive.


 Plug the SATA power connector into the HDD.
 Plug the additional cables from the case into the appropriate connectors according to
the motherboard manual.

Connect the Data Cables
Follow these steps for data cable installation:

 Plug the other end of the SATA cable into the Optical drive.
 Plug one end of the SATA cable into the motherboard socket. Outlet
 Plug the other end of the SATA cable into the HDD.
 Plug one end of the SATA cable into the motherboard socket.
 Double check to make sure all cables are securely connected to the devices and to the
motherboard.
Covering Installation

 Position the system unit downward, slightly put the cover case until it totally inserted.
 Position the system unit upward and secured with the screws.
Connect External Cables to the Computer
Follow these steps for external cable installation:

 Prepare monitor with Data Cable and power cord.


 Plug the other end of the power cord into the AC power connector.
 Plug the other end of the VGA data cable into the VGA port.
 Plug the other end of the data cable into the VGA port.
 Plug the mouse cable into the PS/2 mouse port.

 Plug the keyboard cable into the PS/2 keyboard port.


 Plug the other end of the power cord into the AC power connector.
 Double check to make sure all cables is securely connected to the system
unit/computer.
 Plug one end of the AC power cord monitor and system unit/computer into the AC
power supply outlet.
