Topic: The Global Interstate System Exercise 2: The Most Talked About Issues
1. Using your Facebook account, browse your newsfeed and examine the most “talked about” relevant issues that
people are posting about (it can be economic, political, cultural, social). List down at least three (3) topics and
provide a brief background on each issue and discuss why do you think it is relevant today.
1. COVID-19 In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists from different parts of the
Vaccination world formulated vaccines that offer immunity to the virus. One of the issues that
arise in this topic is its effectiveness and safety and which one provides better
results that lead people to debate on what vaccine to take. COVID-19 vaccination
also dragged Dengvaxia issue due to the alleged danger it imposed on those
vaccinated, which resulted in the public's hesitance to take another dose of
vaccine.
2. Former President Recently on the 24th of June, former President Benigno Aquino III was
Benigno Aquino III pronounced dead in his sleep. He served as the 15th president of the Philippines
from 2010 to 2016. Therefore, his death becomes relevant, for he served the
Filipino people for six years despite the criticism thrown on him and his family
until his last breath.
3. Suspension of giving Face-to-face classes, which is considered the traditional and most convenient
Academic Excellence way of teaching was disrupted due to the danger caused by the COVID-19
awards to non- pandemic. As new modality paves the way for education, challenges also arise
graduating students. that significantly affect the teachers and students. Despite the obstacles faced,
learning never stops but giving awards does; this is per the issuance of DepEd
Order No. 18, S. of 2021 that gained lots of negative comments from students all
over the country.
1.1. Among your list, choose one issue. Do you think this particular problem/issue is affected by globalization and our
country’s relations with other states? How?
The COVID-19 vaccination. Yes, I think the issue linked with COVID-19 vaccination was being affected
by globalization and our country's relations with other states. We are all aware that the vaccines we have, including
Pfizer, which is from China. We cannot deny that some citizens' willingness to get a vaccine depends on where they
came from. However, due to the country's relationship with China and the issues between these two countries, most
of the citizens prefer not to have the Pfizer vaccine. In addition to that, is the fact that the virus came from China
makes people hesitant to get vaccinated, which results in this issue.
2. In what ways can our country exercise and maintain sovereignty in governance and policy making in resolving global
issues in our local context?
For me, there are many possible ways the country can exercise and maintains sovereignty in governance
and policymaking in resolving global issues in our local context out there. Officials should not just focus on their
authority but should think outside the box and keep in mind the citizens and the global issues they are dealing with.
The country should be one; cooperation plays a vital role when it comes to solving global problems.
Globalization affects our lives in many ways in terms of the policies and governance of each state. One way
for the Philippines to maintain its sovereignty is by instilling its roots in its citizens, including their culture, and
maintaining a sense of discipline, cooperation, and patriotism. A country that works together towards one goal
succeeds together.
3. In your opinion, will geopolitical boundaries of states still be relevant in the future?
Geopolitical boundaries are physical or imaginary barriers that separate two things, specifically a different
region or territory. In my opinion, the geopolitical boundaries of states will and should still be relevant. It plays an
essential role in terms of the policymaking of different countries. Barriers symbolize limitations of each country
that is there for the own benefit of its citizens.
