environmental, academic, political, religion and other forms of problem. These problems have a great
impact in a particular person or even in a group or an organization. Thus, we need to adhere and

that everyone shall be benefited from them. You as a learner of 21 st century may challenge you on
how to find a solution to these problems that is based on knowledge, skill and attitude. You must
possess these kinds of aspect through organized, reliable, authentic and well-planned methodology.
Thus, you are required to do a research.

Research could be subjective and objective which depends on your chosen problem. It is
asking what you have already known and what you may know today. It guides us to take a right track
of reliable and relevant information. It has a great contribution to man in everyday life. The quality of
man’s life is improved through research making it easier and valuable from simple to complex.
Research opens our mind that we should not tolerate that everything is always available to seek the
truth. Find your way and solve these complex issues or problems to eliminate them through research.

In this lesson, you will illustrate the meaning of a research, how to cite some resources on
different kinds of source of information and how to create a sample research paper.

Let’s Have a Pre-Test!

In this activity, you will find out how much you already know about the following selection. Read
carefully and answer the task.

Task 1: Let’s Warm-Up!

Direction: Do you know the neighborhood (or barangay) that you live in? do you know how it has
changed ever since you started living there? How was it before you even came around?

As a preliminary activity in preparation for an academic research, try answering these questions by
filling in the table below. Compare and contrast different aspects of your barangay from how it was
before you started living there, when you first moved in, and how it is at the present. Use resources
readily available to you to acquire the needed information. You can visit the local library and/or archives,
interview fellow inhabitants of the barangay, read books and articles about your barangay, and whatever
other means of research you deem useful. Do add pictures and/or video your entire process of
researching. Type your data in each column.
