Updated to include reference to document MFG-CMP-DQRM-I108 Rev: A.
A section needs to be referenced for completions 8-round threads. This

is missing and is under investigation as a potential cause of a failure as
to the inspection of 8-round threads.
Three Previous Revisions
Added Premium Threads note. Added the last sentence, "Raised material
must be removed using hand file or soft (non metallic) buffing wheel.
T 3043&2594&2932 Blue Sr., William Scala, Ricardo A 14 Jan 2020
After repair use Profile gage to check affected area". Removed reference
to QP000-002 and replaced with BHOS-AMO-001.
R 2591/dc Added QP000-002 to refer to AMO color code procedure in section 5. Blue Sr., William Scala, Ricardo A 11 Jan 2019

1 Scope
This procedure will replace the QM00-001 (Used Thread Inspection Procedure), the RP00-002
(Used thread Cleaning Procedure) and the RP00-001 (Used thread Repair procedure)
It must be used for the inspection and rework of all IF, Reg, NC, H90, OH, PAC, SH, SL H90, FH, XH, NC
mod., Reg mod., CDP, BH-HT, and all other Baker Hughes threads.
For API 8-round, 10-round, and Line-pipe threads use document MFG-CMP-DQRM-I108.
It must not be used for the inspection of BH-T2 threads! Use QP200-006 BH-T2 Thread Inspection
and Rework Procedure instead.
This procedure is valid for the quality inspection of Baker Hughes tools with the above mentioned
thread connection.
All tools with premium threads which have been sent to a customer site
and subsequently returned to Baker Hughes AMO location torqued or to
Note 2 be torqued again must have the threads inspected by a qualified
inspector for the respective threads prior to sending the equipment out
on another job. In case of any repair or re-cut, authorized or certified
machine shop shall be utilized. Manufacturing quality can be contacted
for guidance on relevant thread type’s requirements.
2 Inspection
Due to wear, corrosion and fatigue, defects can occur on thread connections, which can result in
failure of the thread connection.
3 Accomplishment
This procedure is intended to standardize your work by means of the corresponding inspection
and rework instructions and reports.
Carry out the inspection strictly according to this instruction! The individual steps are shown
briefly in this document and have to be carried out in the given order!
After having completed the thread inspection, the Thread Inspection Report has to be filled out.
If you should find any errors in this instruction during the assembly or in the report, or if you want
to suggest improvements or become aware of required changes to this document, please follow
the Document Change Request (DCR) process on Baker Hughes Operating System (BHOS).

6 Documentation
All inspection results must be documented in the applicable Inspection Reports QP900-001 and
the tool related AMO Manual or Acceptance Checklist (BHOS AMO, Section 8 and 10).

9 Connection Inspection
Before performing any connection inspection the thread
need to be cleaned of dirt, drilling mud, grease etc. The
cleaning area shall include the OD and ID of the connection
with an additional overlapping area of minimum 50 mm (2
inch)!
Use a high pressure cleaner, brushes and solvent for
cleaning. Take special care to the thread root which may
be cleaned with a fiberglass wire brush and straight
grinder. To remove rust on carbon steel connections, the
usage of metal wire brushes and straight grinder is
acceptable.
NOTICE
For removal of "Bakerlok" the thread must be heated to
approx. 250°C and cleaned with metal wire brushes and
straight grinder.
It is not allowed to clean the thread with a grinding wheel or
by sandblasting!
Any usage of abrasive cleaning materials, including rubber
wheels, to clean the thread profile and shoulder is
prohibited! No material must be removed of thread
shoulder, flanks and root for cleaning purpose. The usage of
soft abrasive material such as "Scotch-Brite" is acceptable.
Refer to the tool related manufacturing or AMO Manual (BHOS AMO, Section 8) for additional /
exceptional dimensions overriding general dimensions given in this procedure.
The connection inspection of any thread can be classified into 3 groups, each group
corresponding to the related status. Refer also to Page 24 chapter 10 for rework explanation.

Any area showing irregularities shall be further investigated using the applicable inspection
methods and acceptance criteria given in this manual.
Thread shoulder: Surface imperfections which cover not more than 20% of the seal width and
are not deeper than 0.4 mm (0.016 inch) at any given location (see Figure 5), or circumferential
scratches which are not deeper than 0.8 mm (0.031 inch) and cover not more than 20% of the
seal width, allowed. Elevated spots must be removed. No washouts allowed. Shoulder flatness
shall be verified using a straight edge, no gaps greater than 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) allowed.
Pin ID: The entire pin ID for a length exceeding the threaded length shall be examined for pitting.
Pitting that is measured or visually estimated to be deeper than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) shall be cause
for rejection. Pitting that exceeds the limit must be either polished with a max. depth of 2.4 mm
(3/32 inch) and must have a smooth transition to the surrounding surface at approx. 2-3 times
the original pitting diameter, or reworked acc. to the max. rework limits (Ladder tables, and
rework limits from Table 3).
Boreback: The entire boreback surface shall be examined for pitting. Pitting that is measured or
visually estimated to be deeper than 0,8 mm (1/32 inch) shall be cause for rejection. Pitting that
exceeds the limit must be polished with a max. depth of 2,4 mm (3/32 inch) and must have a
smooth transition to the surrounding surface at approx. 2-3 times the original pitting diameter,
but not more than 3 times the diameter of the original pit.
The profile gage shall mesh with the thread load and stab flanks so that no light is
visible at any of the thread flanks or roots. Uniform flank wear estimated to be less
than 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) is permissible.
If the profile gage indicates that the pin is stretched, Pin lead measurement is
required. Measure the Pin thread over a 2 lead interval beginning at the first full-
depth thread nearest the shoulder. Pin stretch (elongation) shall not exceed 0.15
mm (0.006 inch) over the 2 inch length.
Thread profile wear shall not exceed 0,1 mm (0.004 inch)
Any thread profile deformation is cause for rejection.
Areas to be inspected with MT or PT are marked with a dashed line ( _ _ _ ). See Figure 7 below
for reference.
The Box OD marked with an additional dashed / dotted line ( _ . _ . _ ) should be MT or PT
inspected if possible. However due to tong marks it could be difficult to evaluate the
inspection. In this case a good visual inspection may be used as an alternative.
10 Thread Rework
All reworked connections need a post rework inspection containing of:
i. Visual Connection Inspection
ii. Dimensional Inspection
iii. Non Destructive Testing (NDT)
Thread rework can be classified in 3 general steps:
Pin thread profile and shoulder rework is permissible within the limits given in Table 3. If cold
working is required the cold working shall start at the large end with closest possible distance to
the thread shoulder.
Example 2:
Q: You measured the SRG Diameter (D) with
136,1 mm.
What is the acceptable Inner Diameter
(d)?
A: The acceptable Inner Diameter (d) is max.
76,0 mm or less but not less than 71,4 mm.
Example 3:
Q: You measured the Inner Diameter (d) with
67,5 mm.
What is the acceptable SRG Diameter (D)?
A: The acceptable SRG Diameter (D) is 135,8
mm or greater but not more than 137,7 mm.
