ME 363 Mechanical of Machinery Lab Semester: 422: BY 1 Ayoub Mohamed ID:391115642

This report discusses an experiment performed on Hook's coupling. Hook's coupling is used to transmit torque between shafts that may be misaligned. The objectives were to determine the output angle, calculate the gimbal error, and compare theoretical and experimental analyses. Equations were used to calculate the output angle and gimbal error theoretically. The experiment was conducted using a Hook's coupling apparatus and measurements were taken for input angles from 0-360 degrees with reflection angles of 20° and 30°. The results showed differences between theoretical and experimental gimbal errors.

• Abstract
In this report we will write about HOOK’S COUBLING Experiment which
we have done it in Machinery Lab, in this experiment, and we have two
parts in this experiment the theoretical and the experimental part and we
will see the difference between these two parts. we have two deflection
angles 20, 30.and we will change the input angle of the coupling starting
.with 0,30 until 360 degree and we will measure the output angle

Introduction
In this Experiment we are going to use HOOK’S COUBLING and it’s used to transmit
torque between two shafts that either tend to lie in the same line or slightly misaligned, coupling
is used based of the application and there are various types of coupling for example :1-RIGID
FLANGE COUPLING 2-UNIVERSAL COUPLING.[1]

Report#: Semester 422

And the objectives of this experiment are to: 1- determine Ø2 2- calculate Gimbal
error 3- calculate the theoretical analysis 4- plotting Gimbal error vs input angle

 As you can see in the graph the Experimental curves didn’t match the
Theoretical curves and that was expected because of the human errors,
let’s take the first reflection angle and it’s 20º(Green-Blue) you can see
the curve is wavy at some point it’s not smooth as the Theoretical curve
and that’s an evidence of the human errors, in the 30º reflection angle
(Red-Yellow) we can see that the curves are closer together and that
means the 30º curve has less human errors than the 20º.

• 5- Conclusion
This invention changed a lot of things in mechanical machines it help
the engineers to create a very flexible machine can be rotated or move it
by itself, helps a lot to improve the ability of transitions.
