    LECTURE 7: Forensic Psychology as an Emerging Field in the Philippines

    Forensic Psychology is a sub-field to forensic science in order to become a forensic psychologist


    you need to a registered psychologist first before you able to practice this profession and it is applied to
    5 subspecialities of forensic and this are police public safety and in this subfield, they established reliable
    and psychological and valid psychological screening procedures and they also perform psychological
    interventions depending on the belief. Another subfield is Legal Psychology together with the
    professionals like social workers, child custody evaluation and they can testify on the court and prove
    the matters. Another one is Psychology of Crime and Delinquency on of the task in this field they are
    trying to inform the legal community about research on decision making and developmental capacity.
    Another subfield is the Victimology and victim services in this subfield they conduct more on counseling
    to victims of different harassments and the last subfield is Correctional Psychology in this subfield they
    are trying to assess the mental needs and treatment or rehabilitation program.

    Forensic psychologist’s speaker shows what they train for such as Chemical examination of gun
    powder, and they also perform paraffin testing to determine the presence of gun powder and they also
    perform color test for explosives and this activity are part of forensic psychology they do not focus only
    on psychology but on other forensic activities as well. They discussed also what does not a forensic
    psychologist do. Lastly, they discussed about the different roles of Forensic Psychologist. First one is as
    Clinician they do conduct divorce, visitation risk assessment and child custody mediation. They also
    provide expert testimony on questions about psychological nature. They also conduct screening and
    selection of law enforcement candidates. They also provide clinical services to offenders and staff in
    correctional facilities and assess offender if she or he post threat to community.

    LECTURE 8: Unlocking the Potential of Future Firearm Investigation

    In the Firearm Investigation there are technologies to detect a crime and we have for example
    social media apps such as WhatsApp, emergency services and CCTV cameras all of that can determine a
    crime. However, in determining gunshot there are technology that can find evidence by using x ray and
    comparison macroscopy and 3d imaging. The database is also there to store the database of firearms
    and suspects in order them to link the evidence. This technology are good in prevention of crime.

    There are also Challenges & Practices Inconsistencies in firearm investigation and one of this are
    Inconsistent terminology & lack awareness. The Incompatible databases in between countries and there
    is also lack of data and sharing specially in forensic science in their country because of lack of
    information about that. Another one is there are no feedback. In the Firearm investigation there are
    related Incidents and problems such as illegal manufacturing of firearms because of condense firearm
    manufacturing they have a hard time raiding and search of this manufacturers or homemade guns.

    In order for help these problems there are some actions to take in order to resolve this and one
    of that solution are share accessible training materials in order to gain new ideas on how to handle
    these problems, another one is give feedback so that they know what they done for you and lastly bring
    key stakeholders together all of those who are knowledgeable people.
