    Melinda Jaffe is a 28-year old mother of two, ages 5 and 3.

    Melinda is in for her second


    prenatal visit. She is 5 months pregnant and has a history of congestive heart failure
    secondary to valve disease from childhood rheumatic fever.

    1) What is the most dangerous time in the pregnancy of Melinda and why?

    The dangerous time of pregnancy of Melinda is during her delivery given that she
    has a history of congestive heart failure which can lead to a heart attack due to
    the fact that she will exert effort and contractions may lead to increase HR and
    BP.

    2) How might the fact that Melinda has two young children affect her risk of
    complications from her heart disease?

    Usually in her case we don’t know who will survive during the delivery it’s either
    the baby or the mother. It’s like a gamble and in this situation we fear that the
    mother will not survive making the mother more anxious and stress whenever
    she is on her delivery talk about her physical health knowing she has a heart
    complications and prolonged delivery is not advisable in her case so that’s why
    CS is offered for the mother to exert less effort.

    3) Create a nursing care plan for Melinda.
