In this assignment you can use your employment context or prefer to use the following scenario
as a standard context – in the scenario you will be required to research organisations of your
choice of which information you will find easily be secondary research. The unit will involve the
learner in formulating research and methodologies to support a strategic management project.
They will be required to critically evaluate options and data sources prior to presenting project
outcomes.

Scenario
Assume, you work as a Strategic and Operational Business Manager for a multinational company
which has its business operations across the world. The organisation sells products and services to
its customers. The purpose of your role is to develop long-term strategic plan and implement
them through short-term operational plans; manage business operations, budgets and financial,
marketing, people and project delivery. As part of your role, you are writing a report to formulate
research and methodologies to support a long-term project. To meet each task, you would have
to answer assessment criteria.
You can select any company of your choice

Task 1
Identify and justify a strategic investigative project by meeting following assessment criteria (A.C.)
A.C 1.1. Determine a strategic topic to investigate that has significant implications for the organisation
A.C 1.2. Discuss the aim, scope and objectives of the project
A.C 1.3. Take responsibility for and justify the topic of investigation and its aim, scope and objectives
A.C 1.4. Formulate the project research methodology, including the project structure and research base

Task 2
Conduct research using different data sources, and synthesise data and options by meeting following
assessment criteria (A.C.)
A.C 2.1. Assess sources of data and information that will support the aim of the project
A.C 2.2. Synthesise the data and information for options or alternatives that support the project aims
A.C 2.3. - Critically evaluate and determine an option that supports the project’s strategic aims

Task 3
Draw conclusions and make recommendations that achieve the project aim by meeting following
assessment criteria (A.C.)
A.C 3.1. Critically evaluate the research to enable conclusions to be made
A.C 3.2. Recommend a course of action that achieves the strategic aims of the project
A.C 3.3. Critically analyse the impact of the recommendations

Task 4
Develop and review the results of the investigative project by meeting following assessment criteria (A.C.)
A.C 4.1. Determine the medium to present the result of the project and its contribution to strategic
objectives
A.C 4.2. Take responsibility for the results of the investigative project and the substantial changes and
developments it brings about

Guidelines for completion

 This assignment will involve you in considerable research through the tasks, accessing
relevant information and planning out your answers.

 Produce work that meets the assessment criteria given for each Task

 Ensure you have completed all tasks and show where the evidence is for each assessment
criteria

 You should demonstrate your knowledge, skills and competence of explaining, analysing
and evaluating through preparing reports, and case presentations.

 Use the standard business report format.

 A standard citation and Harvard referencing system is required.

 Complete the assignment front page and sign the statement of authenticity.

 You may use course notes, articles, textbooks, internet, and any additional paper-
based material to facilitate completion of this assignment.

 Manage and organise own time to complete all tasks and submit work by the deadline.

 Your work will be tested for any malpractice or plagiarism and will not assessed

 The minimum word counts for task 1 – 700 words, Task 2 – 600 words, Task 3 – 600 words
and Task 3 – 600 words. Total word counts are 3000 words (+/- 10%).

 Email a draft assignment to info@cmls-global.com and after initial comments from the
tutor, upload to the Virtual Learning Platform Assignment portal.

 All work must be submitted in a single electronic document (.doc/.docx file) to the virtual
learning platform.
