invention must pass to ensure its (30) …….. .
SURVIVE
First of all, is there sufficient consumer demand? If nobody wants the product,
then no matter how brilliant the idea behind it, it's not going to take off. Secondly,
commercial (31) ……….. is always very much related to how (32) ……….. the product SUCCEED
AFFORD
is. The costlier it is initially, the less likely it is to become a big seller, (33) ……….. of
REGARD
how interesting and desirable it might seem.
(34) ……….. is another important element. After all, if a product is so complex
that non-technical salespeople are (35) ……….. of explaining how it works and what it SIMPLE
CAPABLE
can do for potential customers, then it will be hard to sell.
Finally, any new gadget or domestic appliance needs to be both reliable and (36)

period of time for its users, then word will soon get round and nobody else will buy it. EFFECT

with the completion of the largest ever study of the so-called staring effect, there is impressive evidence that
this is a recognisable and (1) ……….. sixth sense. The study (2) ……….. hundreds of children. For the

……….. sensed when they were being watched almost 70% of the time. The experiment was repeated with the
(6) ……….. precaution of putting the children who were being watched outside the room, (7) ……….. from
the starers by the windows. This was done just in case there was some (8) ……….. going on, with the children
telling each other whether they were looking or not. This (9) ……….. the possibility of sounds being (10)
……….. between the children. The results, though less impressive, were more or less the same Dr. Sheldrake,
