2. Following are the observation taken at every 30m interval along a survey line. First reading was
taken on zero chainage having a bench mark level of 180.500 Enter these observations in proper
tabular form, compute reduced levels and show necessary check. Determine the general
gradient of ground from first point and the last point neglecting other points. 1.750, 1.370,
1.150, 2.315, 0.950, 1.415, 2.040 and 3.590 Instrument was shifted after 4th observation.

Assignment 1 (50)
16. Some of the methods used in the interpolation of contours are the GRID and TIN methods.
Explain the merits of using each of these techniques (8 marks)
17. Define a map (2)
18. State the factors that determine the scale of a map (3)
19. List and explain any three types of scales (6)
20. Use the rise and fall to determine RL of peg 1 to peg 8 (6)
a. Given that there was a constant out gradient from BMA TO Peg 8 and 0% gradient from Peg 8 to
BMB, determine the gradient from BMA to Peg8, cut or fill at every station (10)
b. Draw a longitudinal section from the information calculated above. (5)
