This document provides preliminary design details for strengthening a concrete slab with carbon fiber composite sheets. The slab is 18.5cm thick with a service bending moment of 504,000 Nm. Carbon fiber with a modulus of 33 GPa and strength of 550 MPa is selected. Calculations show the required carbon fiber area is 0.0228 m2/m width, requiring 4 layers. Analysis of the cracked and uncracked concrete sections is also presented to verify the strengthened section can resist the factored bending moment of 792,000 Nm.
