Sketch and Describe A Two-Stage Air Compressor Suitable For Marine Use Up To 30 Bar Pressure
Sketch and describe a two-stage air compressor suitable for marine use up to 30 bar
pressure.
The diagram shows a single cylinder, 2-stage single-acting water-cooled air compressor
designed to supply compressed air for engine starting at 30 bar.

(iii) Air & Cylinder Liner Cooling
Inter cooler and After cooler are tubular heat exchangers. Cooling water circulates outside
the cooler tubes and through CW jacket to cool cylinder walls.

(vi) Suction & Discharge valves
Air suction and discharge valves are in pockets in the cylinder
heads. The valves are of the thin plate type and are as shown in
Figure.
The moving discs of the valves have low inertia to permit rapid
action.

(vii) Intercooler & After cooler
The intercooler is of the single pass type.
The shell forms an integral part of the cylinder
block casting, with the air passing through the
tubes. Bursting disc is provided to protect
casing against overpressure.
