EP11205 Drilling Fluids: Understanding Formation Damage

Designed for
Newly recruited Production Chemists working with drilling fluids and Well Engineers and Production Technologists prior to their initial
hands on well-site training. Also recommended for all staff who will be assigned to the well-site for operational duties (e.g. Well-site
Petroleum Engineers).

Objectives
On completion of the course the participant should understand the basic theory of formation damage, how it occurs, what are the
primary controlling factors and what is its impact, in order to ensure proper, fit-for-purpose drilling and drilling/completion fluid design
and to formulate effective control strategies.

The participant should be able to:

? Describe what formation damage is
? Describe the impact of formation damage (production impairment) on the profitability of the Company

? Describe the hydrocarbon habitat

? Describe the various impairment mechanisms
? Describe the recommended formation control strategies

Subjects

? What is formation damage?

? Minimising UTC
? Diagnostics
? Porosity, permeability and filtrate invasion
? Damage mechanisms
? Damage control game

Notes
There are four other modules in the Drilling Fluids series.
