LESSON 2
ASSESSMENT / ENRICHMENT
To check your understanding of the lesson, answer the following questions:
1. How do you differentiate the types of communication in relation to communication
mode?
- Formal communication is the use of formal language that is delivered orally or in writing.
Formal settings and writings include lectures, public talks/speeches, research and project
proposals, reports, and business communications, among others. While it is called informal
communication, it does not use formal terminology. It entails casual and informal
discussions with friends, family members, and acquaintances about anything and
everything.
2. How can visual communication enhance the message conveyed by a speaker? Cite
a situation when it is best to employ visual communication.
-The use of pictures to convey information and/or messages is known as visual
communication. Signs, symbols, iconography, maps, graphs, charts, diagrams,
pictograms, photographs, drawings or illustrations, and even various forms of technological
communication are all also examples of visual communication. For example, explaining an
business profit or losses through charts.
3. What are the types of communication in relation to context? How do they differ from
one another?
- The difference between the three is that Interpersonal communication is a two way
communication while presentational communication has only an individual speaking and
other(s) listening and Interpretive Communication is just translating raw information into a
language which normal people can understand.
4. How can you listen to speaker’s opinions through electronic media without easily
swayed into accepting their opinions?
- The idea of a speaker making a point is usually to persuade. If you have good critical thinking
skills, being convinced of another’s argument or statement, if fact based, is up to your common
sense.
5. Of the four approaches employed in formal organization structure, which do you
think is the best? Cite situations which will call for the use of each approach. Give
one advantage of each.
-For me the best among the four is Downward communication, it because there was a flow of
communication is top-down or from a superior to a subordinate, usually asking certain
individuals to perform a certain task. One example is the government of the Philippines. And
the advantage of it is the communication has a flow and it will not be misunderstand or being
misinterpret.
6. Would you know any strategy or method by which you can reduce the complexity of
understanding another culture? Do you think it will work with your current set of
foreign friends?
-For me the best strategy or method to reduce the complexity of understanding another
culture is respect each culture. Because in respect starts everything, when you start to
respect the culture, you will learn to love it.
7. How do you differentiate formal communication from informal communication in
relation to purpose and style? Provide situations to illustrate the differences.
