1.4 Effluents and by-product summary

1.4.1 Waste Water

1) Waste water from Drying section : WW-01

The waste water from the Drying Section will be sent to a waste water pond where
PVC solid in the waste water will precipitate to some extent. This waste water is
transferred by a Waste Water Transfer Pump (PU-3209) to the Waste Water Treatment
Unit. The expected characteristics of the waste water from the pond are as follows:

Quantity : Approx. 33 m3/h


pH : Approx. 7
BOD5 : Max. 100 mg/liter
COD-Cr : Max. 150 mg/liter
VCM : Max. 1 ppm
PVC : Max. 360 mg/liter for K-67R(SL-K) grade
Max. 50 mg/liter for other grades

2) Waste water from Stripping Section : WW-02

While the Grade change, waste water is discharged from Stripping Column (TW-3201)
to sewer.

Quantity : Approx. 14 m3/time of grade change (20 min./time)

3) Waste water from VCM Recovery Section : WW-03

Waste water containing high COD content is discharged from the VCM Recovery
Section of the PVC plants. This waste water is transferred by a Waste Water Pump
(PU-3307) to the Waste Water Treatment Unit.

Characteristics of this waste water are as follows:

4) Washing water in the Polymerization Reactor : WW-04

Water used for cleaning of the Polymerization Reactor (RE-3101) is discharged to


sewer.

Used water is cooling water and the waste water used for the Reactor Cleaning is
delivered to a public sewer after being filtrated by bag filters made of clothes.

Quantity : Approx. 21 m3/batch of a reactor (1 hour/batch)

5) Waste water from PVC Plant : WW-05

1.4.2 Waste Solids

1) Waste PVC from the Product Sieve (SP-3202AB)

Off-spec. PVC shall be separated from the product in the Product Sieve and
discharged/sold as a 2nd product.

Quantity : Approx. 20 tons / year

2) Waste solid in the waste water pond (PT-3501)

The PVC sludge containing no harmful object, which sediments in the waste water
pond and the separator pond, can be buried underground.

Quantity : Approx. 30 tons / year

1.4.3 Waste Air

Waste gas from the Plants shall meet the Local standard.

1) Waste gas from Drying Section : WG-01

Waste gas to dry up the PVC powder in the Dryer Unit is discharged to atmosphere
through an Exhaust Scrubber (VE-3207), which is furnished with a demister and
water scrubbing

Characteristics of the waste gas are as follows :

2) Waste process gas from the VCM Recovery Section : WG-02

The process waste gas containing waste VCM gas is discharged from VCM Gas
Treatment Unit (UT-3301) in the VCM Recovery Section of the PVC Plant with the
following composition :

Quantity : Approx. 10 Nm3/h


VCM content : Max. 100 ppm (pending)
Temperature : Ambient

3) Blowdown gas discharged from safety valves

Waste blowdown gas containing VCM from VCM safety valves shall be discharged
directly to atmosphere in the worst case of emergency.
