What are the special days celebrated in your country?

Festivals are considered to be splendid events of any community or country in the

world and mine is no exception. Throughout the year, many festivals such as New
Year day, Hung King’s Festival or Vu Lan, the Moon Festival, the National Day
festival…are celebrated as important parts of in Vietnam tradition.Besides, we
have several other public holidays when we don't have to go to school or work.
Which is your favourite and why?
Lunar New Year is easily to be my most favorite festival because it is among the
most important holidays in Vietnam. it’s the most important and longest holiday
we have, a good time for family reunion and relaxation. I love the atmosphere of
excitement and joy when everyone comes together to celebrate a special occasion.
Tet holiday is the only occasion that people start forgetting about the troubles of
the past year and hope for a better upcoming year
What do you think is the most important festival in your country?
Probably, the most important celebration in Vietnam is the Tet Holiday. It is not
only the occasion to mark the beginning of a New Year in the Lunar Calendar, but
also a time of reunions for family members and friends. It is the beginning of a
new year and people aspire for a fresh beginning. So, they celebrate the day in
special manners. And thus the day bears a great significance to us.
In what way do people celebrate the festival?
Festivals are truly the time when people do come back home and celebrate with
their family and friends. People dress up according to the occasion and cook
delicacies, invite friends and have a family time. When Tet comes around the
corner, most Vietnamese people return to their families to visit their family
members, to worship at the family altar or visit the graves of their ancestors in their
homeland as a sign of respect.
Do people prepare any special food for the occasion? (include Which do people
prefer, to spend it with family or with friends?)
Many Vietnamese people prepare for Tet by cooking special holiday food which
includes giò, chả, nem, thịt gà and banh tet - an indispensable dish. In my culture,
it’s more very family-oriented holiday. We usually have a special family dinner at
home followed by the countdown to midnight. After this, we go out to the city or
town streets to drink with our friends and wish them a happy new year.
How did people celebrate the festival in the past? (include How has the way been
changed and why?)
in the past Vietnamese people used to celebrate only several traditional festivals,
including Vietnamese New Year, Ghost festival or Mid-Autumn festival. In
contrast, now there are more foreign festivals that many family and young people
also celebrate as their own festivals, such as Valentine, Christmas, New Year. I
think the reason is that under the influence of globalization, we tend to embrace
new festivals more quickly, and this is also a good opportunity for people to relax
Do you think that it is important to have festivals?
Yes, I do believe that festivals are immensely important for a country and its
people because these celebrations represent the cultural and national identity of this
country. Besides, festivals also attract international tourists and boost the tourism
industry. Finally, working-class people need vacations and the festivals to be great
ways to energize themselves from day-to-day chores. The important festivals also
bring people together and eliminate the differences we have in our society.
