EEE111 EXPERIMENT 6 - STUDENT VERSION (Finished)

This document describes Experiment 6 on wiring installation systems. It discusses the different types of circuits and switches used, including lighting circuits, miniature circuit breakers, one-way and two-way switches. Test results are shown in a table measuring insulation, continuity and polarity. Students are instructed to record their results, answer questions, and submit a short report discussing their results and conclusions.

QUESTIONS
1. What are the two types of breaker that are used in this experiment?
= Miniature Circuit Breaker(MCB), Residual Current Circuit Breaker(RCCB)
2. What is the function of the earthing wire?
= Earthing wire is used to protect someone from an electric shock as it flow the current back to the
source.
3. What are the differences between one way switch and two way switch?
= One way switch has two terminals while two way switch have three terminals
4. Why we need to do the wiring testing?
= To avoid electrical leakage from the circuit
5. What are the electrical wire colour codes?
=Blue for Neutral, Brown for Live, Green for Earth.

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS
1. All experimental results and answers must be recorded in the Lab Manual.
2. Write a short report which include results, questions, discussion and conclusion.
3. Submit your report through MS teams.
Discussion

This experiment is about wiring installation system where it conclude basic

concepts of electrical power, earthing, distribution systems and wiring. Wiring system is
an installation system that consists of conductor, insulator, mechanical protection and
electrical accessories. There two types of final circuit which are lighting circuit and
power circuit. A lighting circuit is a wiring system that provides power to electric lights
and is used for running low power rating devices. Meanwhile, power circuit is a
measure of how quickly it converts energy.

There are main switch and insulation tester where Miniature Circuit
Breaker(MCB) and Residual Current Circuit Breaker(RCCB) comes into play. MCB is
an electromechanical device designed to protect an electric circuit from over-current or
short circuit. RCCB is a device to detect and trip against electrical leakage currents.

Moreover, there two types of switches mentioned in this experiment which are
one-way switch, and two-way switch. One-way switch is used when there are one
switch for a light, for example a bedroom ceiling light. One-way switch has two
terminals. Two-way switch is used for a light from two different locations and mostly
used in the case of stairs, or toilet. One way switch has three terminals.

Based on the experiment, Table 6.1, shows that the resistance are the same
which is infinity for three types of insulation test, phase & neutral, phase & CPC,
neutral & CPC. For the continuity test on phase, neutral and CPC, the resistance is
also the same which is 0.8Ω. Lastly for polarity test, three of them has continuity.
Conclusion

In a nutshell, student are able to understand the basic concepts of electrical power,
earthing, distribution systems and wiring. There are also able to understand the wiring
diagram and wiring installation method for a lighting circuit. Then, they understand
trunking system. Moreover, the student also understands the wiring of one-way switch
nad two-way switch. Furthermore, they are also able to understand the inspection and
testing method for a wiring circuit. Lastly, they understands the steps and safety to
power up the lighting circuit.
