NARRATIVE REPORT

“Trends in the 21st Century Education: Preparing for the School of Tomorrow”
December 4, 2021

The webinar starts at exactly 10 in the morning with the theme: “Trends in the 21st
Century Education: Preparing for the School of Tomorrow”. This webinar was hosted by
Mr. Limuel O. Abellanida Jr., He started with a warmth greeting to everyone. The
program continued with the Opening Prayer, singing of the Philippine National Anthem
and presenting the different Webinar Etiquette. The host mentioned that this new
normal changed everything, and everyone are affected especially the education sector,
students, parents, and most especially the teachers which is true and very evident. We
are having hard time adopting the new trends in education. Miss Kathleen Mae
Carandang was called to present the different participants and after her is Fr. Harris
Iñigo Garcia the co-chairman of the webinar who delivered the Opening Remarks. After
the opening remarks Mrs. Noreen de Luna was called to introduce the first speaker. The
first speaker named Doc. Kristine Cinco from SDO Lipa City imparted about the Digital
Revolution or also known as education 4.0 is shifted from mechanical and analogue
electronic technology to digital electronics which began in the latter half of the 20th
century, with the adoption and proliferation of digital computers and digital record-
keeping that continues to the present day. She also mentioned and shared the acronym
VUCA which means Votality, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity that the educators
must acquire and use in this new setting in education. The difference between the
digital immigrants and the digital native was explained also. The 20th century education
and the 21st century education was differentiated also which is the learning is content-
centered and the latter is learning tools and skills to remake the content to become a
producer. She also discussed the different strategies and activities that we have to
employ to adopt this new normal learning settings. The one that strikes me is the mind
mapping where students can think creatively and can differentiate the learning from the
past with the learning from the present. Her sharing is very informative and useful in this
time of catastrophic event. And before the second speaker was called Dr. Jewelson
Santos who is the professor of the subject was delivered his message and he is very
thankful to the organizing committee but also to all the participants. Mrs Noreen de Luna
was called for the second time to introduce the second speaker who is Doc. Albert
Yazon from Laguna State Polytechnic University with his background you will be
amazed because of his achievements. The second speaker discussed his topic in 4
areas: Paradigm shift in our education system, emerging trends in K-12 education,
skills, and competencies students and teachers need to be successful in this rapidly
changing world, and Flexible teaching and learning model that can be adopted to
prepare for the school of tomorrow. He also added the two words in the acronym VUCA
shared by Dr. Cinco and those two words are Diversity and Dynamism. He mentioned
that we have 6 factors affecting the shift of educational system and he used the
infographic to discuss it. And these are Changes in society, economy, technology,
ideas inherited from the past, educational policy, beliefs of those on board and
aspirations for the future. This webinar helps teachers and as a future educator.
Certificates of the speakers was read and given after they talk. This webinar serves as
guide to be a productive and effective educator. The webinar ended at exactly 1 in the
afternoon with the Closing Remarks rendered by the chairman of the organizing
committee Mrs. Noreen de Luna.
