Revision of pay scales for staff member of SEBI

The Board, in its meeting held in August 1999, approved that the pay scales prescribed for the
officers of SEBI would be on the pattern of RBI. Accordingly, the staff members are being
extended the pay scales, allowances and other benefits similar to that of RBI with marginal
variations. Pay revision as effected by RBI in 1995, 2001 and 2005 were implemented in SEBI.

The RBI has revised the pay scales and allowances in respect of its staff members in Grades A to
F in September 2010. The revision has been implemented retrospectively with effect from
November 1, 2007. Accordingly, it is proposed to extend the benefits of the revised scales of pay
and allowances to the staff members of SEBI in Grade A to Grade F and other staff members
generally on the lines of RBI. The details of pay scales to be extended to the staff members of
SEBI have been furnished in Annexure I. The details of the pre-revised and revised pay and
allowances in each of the grades have been furnished in Annexure II.

It may be recalled that RBI had separately introduced Special Allowance and Central Banking
allowance (now renamed as Grade Allowance in September 2010) to its officers in November
2005 and January 2007 respectively. However the same was not extended to the staff members in
SEBI. It is now proposed to extend the same to the staff members with prospective effect. All
other allowances and revision of pay shall be implemented retrospectively with effect from
November 1, 2007.

The additional payout per annum for SEBI upon implementation of the aforesaid proposal, for the
existing staff strength, would be approximately ` 14.46 crore.
