Introduction: The teacher introduces the topics by greeting students and uttering few comments on the
previous lesson.
Previous In the previous classes of students they should have been exposed vowel sounds,
Knowledge comprehension passages, nouns, and narrative essay.

Student Activity Students will listen to teacher’s explanation, they will make inputs and write notes where
necessary.
Presentation: The lesson would be presented in the following steps:

Step 1- L&S
Step 1: Teacher introduces the lesson.
Step 2: He pronounces the two sounds.
Step 3: He explains the differences between the sounds.
Step 2- Step 4: Show examples of the sounds in words.
Reading
Step 2: He requests a student to read the passage.
Step 3- Step 3: He reads the passage while students concentrate on the text.
Step 4: Teacher guides students to attempt the questions in the passage.
Grammar
Step 4- Step 1: Teacher introduces the lesson.
Step 2: He reminds students of definition of noun.
Step 3: He explains the concept of plural nouns.
Step 4: State explains how plural nouns could be formed.
Step 5: Attempts conversion of different singular nouns to plural.
Writing
Step 2: Requests a student to remind the class about the definition of narrative composition.
Step 3: He explains the parts of a narrative essay but focuses on body of the essay.

Evaluation: Students will be asked questions related to the study objectives. The questions will be posed in
a random order.
Conclusion: The teacher concludes by summarising the lesson and praying for blessing upon himself and his
students.

1. Class work will be given to students to identify /u/& /u:/ sounds in some words.
2. Passage questions are to serve as homework.

their workbook.

Vowel /u/& /u:/
The main distinction between these two sounds is that /u/ is shorter than /u:/. To produce /u/, round your lips a
little and push them forward. To produce /u:/, round your lips and pull the front of your tongue back, while lifting
your jaw a bit.

Noun plural formation

There are many plural noun rules, and because we use nouns frequently when writing, it is important to know them.
The correct spelling of plurals usually depends on what letter the singular noun ends in. Most singular nouns are
made plural by simply putting an -s at the end. There are many different rules regarding pluralization depending on
what letter a noun ends in.
Examples
1. To make regular nouns plural, add -s to the end.
cat – cats
house – houses
2. If the singular noun ends in -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, or -z, add -es to the end to make it plural.
truss – trusses
bus – buses
marsh – marshes
lunch – lunches
tax – taxes
blitz – blitzes
3. In some cases, singular nouns ending in -s or -z, require that you double the -s or -z prior to adding the -es for
pluralization.
fez – fezzes
gas –gasses (note that gases is also an acceptable, and more commonly used, spelling of this plural noun)
4. If the noun ends with -f or -fe, the f is often changed to -ve before adding the -s to form the plural version.
wife – wives
wolf – wolves
Exceptions:
roof – roofs
belief – beliefs
chef – chefs
chief – chiefs
5. If a singular noun ends in -y and the letter before the -y is a consonant, change the ending to -ies to make the
noun plural.
city – cities
puppy – puppies
6. If the singular noun ends in -y and the letter before the -y is a vowel, simply add an -s to make it plural.
ray – rays
boy – boys
7. If the singular noun ends in -o, add -es to make it plural.
potato – potatoes
tomato – tomatoes
Exceptions:
photo – photos
piano – pianos
halo – halos
With the unique word volcano, you can apply the standard pluralization for words that end in -o or not. It’s your
choice! Both of the following are correct:
volcanoes
volcanos
8. If the singular noun ends in -us, the plural ending is frequently -i.
cactus – cacti
focus – foci
9. If the singular noun ends in -is, the plural ending is -es.
analysis – analyses
ellipsis – ellipses
10. If the singular noun ends in -on, the plural ending is -a.
phenomenon – phenomena
criterion – criteria
11. Some nouns don’t change at all when they’re pluralized.
sheep – sheep
series – series
species – species
deer –deer
You need to see these nouns in context to identify them as singular or plural. Consider the following sentence:
Mark caught one fish, but I caught three fish.

Irregular nouns follow no specific rules, so it’s best to memorize these or look up the proper pluralization in the
dictionary.

Sample essay on How I Spent My Holiday at Home
Introduction: I have spent a really exciting holiday with my family and cousins. We arranged a small picnic that was
really interesting. My parents helped us a lot to arrange the entire program.
Picnic with family is always fun. We can get a chance to meet my uncles, aunties, and cousins. I always love to spend
time with my cousins. In the holidays, we get a chance to meet each other. We decided to visit the nearest jungle
and there was a really beautiful spot for a picnic. Lots of people go there on weekends.
We reached there at 10 o’clock morning. We were really excited to see natural beauty. The place was really silent
and we found lots of jungle hens and other little animals. I was speechless to see all of these. One of my uncles came
with us and we took a 10 minutes small walk.
We saw so many things. There was a beautiful river beside the jungle. The water is really clean there. The river was
not deep and we were able to cross the river walking through big rocks. We collected some beautiful rocks too. The
birds’ sound was really sweet and we saw several types of birds. My uncle was describing every bird and was sharing
information about them as a bird-expert.
Throughout the holiday, my cousins were the most important part of it. They helped me to enjoy the vacation. When
I am with them, I feel really good and they all are my best friends.
Conclusion: I was really excited about the whole thing. I wish to be there again. This day is memorable for me.
