A Mini Statistical Research About Grade 10 Student's Performances During Third Grading in Mathematics

This research summarizes the performance of 15 Grade 10 students in mathematics during the third grading quarter. It finds that 60% of students scored below 80%, with an average score of 10.7. Most students scored between 80-94, while a few scored between 95-99. The researcher concludes that many students find mathematics difficult but are trying to improve. The researcher recommends integrating math into other subjects and daily activities to improve math education.

A Mini Statistical Research about Grade 10 student’s

performances during Third Grading in Mathematics

I. INTRDUCTON

Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and
arrangement. Math is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for
everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and
modern), art, money, engineering, and even sports.

Since the beginning of recorded history, mathematic discovery has been at the forefront
of every civilized society, and in use in even the most primitive of cultures. The needs of
math arose based on the wants of society. The more complex a society, the more
complex the mathematical needs. Primitive tribes needed little more than the ability to
count, but also relied on math to calculate the position of the sun and the physics of
hunting. Mathematics also used in computing student’s grades. Grades can also be a
factor for consideration into an honor society in college. Students find that involvement
in an honor society or other club also makes you eligible for special funding and opens
the door for incredible opportunities.

This mini research aims to determine the performance of Grade 10 students in

Mathematics during third grading quarter, and identify where they find difficulties while
learning mathematics, and to know what topics are hard for them to understand.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. Performance of Grade 10 students in Mathematics for Third Grading

1. What grade did you get during the third quarter?

a. 95-99
b. 90-94
c. 85-89
d. 80-84
e. 75-79
III. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF DATA
Table 1. Frequency distribution on the Performance of 15 Grade 10 students in
Mathematics for the fourth quarter

Class Frequency LB Class Mark <cf fXm

Interval
95-99 1 90.5 97 16 16
90-94 2 89.5 92 15 30
85-89 3 84.5 87 13 39
80-84 6 79.5 82 10 60
75-79 4 74.5 77 4 16
I=5 N=15 ∑fXm=161

Mean = ∑fXm÷15
= 161÷15= 10.7
Percentile Rank
Using Percentile Rank, we are going to determine how many students got the
grade below 80. Thus we are going to get the percentile rank of 79 which is between 75-
79 class interval.
PR =[100/N][(P-LB)fp/I+cfp]
=100/15[(79-74.5) 6/5 +4]
=7 [8.5]
=60%
Therefore 60% of the class got a grade of ≤60.
IV. DATA ANALYSIS

Based from the results computed it is shown that 60% of 15 grade 10 students are
below 80% grades and the average of 10.7. Most of the students got 80 above grades
and the rest got 90 above.

V. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Therefore, the researcher concludes that most of the Grade 10 students find
mathematics difficult to understand but still lots of them are aiming to learn more in order
to get more knowledge. Math education can be improved by making math use an
activity that is integrated into every subject area and into the learner's all day,
everyday routine activities.
