2 Safety
CAUTION
Risk of burns from hot components!
The heat sink of the inverter, the inductor, the transformer, the filters and the
fuses get hot during operation.
• Make sure that the components have cooled down to room temperature
before starting work.
• Alternatively, wear protective clothing and gloves when working near hot
components.
CAUTION
Risk of burns from hot coolant!
The coolant reaches high temperatures during operation.
• Make sure that the coolant has cooled down to room temperature before
starting work.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage to equipment if instructions are not followed!
• Compliance with the connection conditions and technical specifications is
mandatory.
• Pay attention to the standards for electrical installation, e.g. conductor
cross-sectional area, protective earth and earth connection.
• Follow the installation instructions relevant to the specific country in any
given case and comply with the requirements set out by the local energy
supply company.
• Do not touch electronic components or contacts
(components can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge).
CAUTION
Hazard posed by electromagnetic fields!
Potential health hazard for people with pacemakers, metallic implants or hea-
ring aids.
• Such people should consult their doctor before working on a system with
inverters.

4.3 Location
The following requirements must be met prior to the delivery and installation of
the PVmaster station:
–– There must be a sufficiently made-up roadway for the transportation and
installation vehicles to be able to access the site easily.
–– The following requirements must be met in respect of the installation site
terrain:
–– It must be stable enough for the truck and the truck-mounted crane;
–– It must be possible to set the truck-mounted crane up at ground level with
appropriate sling gear;
–– There must be sufficient clearance for working around the truck and the
truck-mounted crane.
4.4 Installation
The PVmaster station is delivered with the Main Combiner Boxes removed:
• Fit the Main Combiner Boxes as illustrated in Fig. 4.1.
5 Installation
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
Up to three separately fused voltage supplies can be connected to the
PVmaster II:
1. DC line from photovoltaic generator
2. AC line to supply network
3. External auxiliary voltage supply
• Before starting work, make sure that the system is not live.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
The DC link capacitors of the inverter are still charged after switch-off.
• Before working on the system, wait until the capacitors have discharged
and make sure the equipment is no longer live.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
Up to two independent power supply units can be connected to the Main Com-
biner Box:
1. DC line from photovoltaic generator
2. DC lines from Main Combiner Boxes connected in parallel
When using several Main Combiner Boxes connected in parallel, it is essential
for all the Main Combiner Boxes to be fitted with a safety disconnection func-
tion!
• Before starting work, make sure that the system is not live.
DANGER
Risk of arc discharge and electric shock!
The fuse holders in the Main Combiner Box are mounting devices - they are
not circuit breakers, isolating switches or load-break switches.
• Change the fuses in off-load state only.
• Always wear the glove when placing the fuses in the holders. Make sure
that the fuses are not pressed too far down into the holders so that they can
be changed again with the glove.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
When changing fuses the full voltage is applied to the generator string.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
Photovoltaic modules are energised as soon as they are exposed to light.
• Before working on the system, take the necessary measures and make
sure that the system is not live.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock from live subassemblies!
Before working on the system, carry out the following five steps for your safety:
1. Disconnect
2. Provide safeguards to prevent unintentional restart
3. Verify isolation from supply at all poles
4. Earth and short-circuit (not on DC side)
5. Cover or encase any neighbouring parts which are still live
It is possible to omit the earthing and short-circuiting in systems with rated volt-
ages of up to 1000 V as long as safety rules 1 to 3 are followed.
WARNING
Failure to comply may result in fatality or injury!
Those operating medium-voltage switchgear must have the necessary authori-
sation to work on medium-voltage switchgear.
ATTENTION
Failure to comply may result in damage to the system!
• Do not use any fuses other than those designed for use in photovoltaic ap-
plications.
• Check that all connection bolts are tightened securely before start of opera-
tion and during maintenance work.
ATTENTION
Failure to comply may result in damage to the system!
The DC input voltage on the PVmaster may not exceed 850 V or 900 V de-
pending on the model. Otherwise the PVmaster may be damaged.

• There are prefabricated DC cables in the PVmaster II control cabinets for the
connection between the PVmaster II and the Main Combiner Boxes. Feed
the prefabricated cables through the base of the PVmaster II control cabinet
and through the cable entry on the ISO container and connect them to the
terminal clamps in the corresponding Main Combiner Boxes (Fig. 5.5, 1, 3).
• There are prefabricated DC cables in the Main Combiner Boxes for the par-
allel connection of the Main Combiner Boxes. Connect the Main Combiner
Boxes as illustrated in Fig. 5.6 .
• No cables are supplied for the connection of the photovoltaic generator.
Identify the cable cross-section as dictated by local conditions. This will
depend on the cable protection, the installation method and the ambient tem-
perature.
• Feed the DC cables from the photovoltaic generator into the Main Combiner
Box and connect them as illustrated in Fig. 5.5, (2).
• Fit all the cables on a cable clamping rail.
• Always wear the glove when placing the fuses in the holders. Make sure that
the fuses are not pressed too far down into the holders so that they can be
changed again with the glove.
• Fit the contact protection back in place.
NOTE
We recommend replacing all three fuse links at the same time.
