Marxist Theory
Marxism is a social, political, and economic theory originated by Karl Marx that
focuses on the struggle between capitalists and the working class.
Marx believed that working class in the society which is ruled by capitalism,
lead to a revolution and overthrow the capitalist class.
Ordinary laborers, who do not own the means of production, such as factories,
buildings, and materials, have little power in the capitalist economic system.
Business owners get the most work from their laborers while paying the lowest
wages. This creates an unfair imbalance. exploit for their own gain.
Marx thought that the capitalist system inherently contained the seeds of its
own destruction. The alienation and exploitation of the proletariat inevitably
drive the working class to rebellion(revolt)
The character named Bob has big breasts and it feminize him and so capitalism
pressure to men about being masculen. (bodybuilding but not like women)
Narrator joins speaking groups in order to escape full of lies of capitalism and
finding true pain true problems, true desires.. Marx claims that a person’s
consciousness is created by their social status. This idea can be seen clearly
when the protagonist loses his home(by an explosion) , his luggage etc.
Narrator talks about his possessions and how he was close to being complete.
(Tyler durden) responds, “never be complete and never try to be perfect”
Narrator was a robotic creature which produced by capitalism therefore Tyler
tries to humanize him by forcing him to fight.Tyler(narrator’s personality)
sabotages movies he hates his job too. Tyler lives does not care about his
possessions his mess home or anything.
Tyler durden and his fight club team, started rebellion against upper class
people – central buildings. They crushed rich people’s car, they changed the
street posters - They sabotage every aspect of capitalist life from roads to
shops, every brand, and every sector. in the Marxist perspective, fighting,
violence are unifying effects. Among the rules, the most important for the
Marxist approach is you have to be free of shoes, shirts and other possessions.
In that sense, there is not anything that can reveal your social status. This is a
place that everyone is equal.
When they are making the soap they uses body fat which stole by clinics. the
system sells a body image and Tyler sells it back to the system again. While
making soap, Tyler burns the protagonist hand with a chemical in this scene he
destroys another superstructure which is religion.
At first, the protagonist is alone and depressed after that he finds a mentor
which is authoritarian but eventually he kills him and becomes his own leader.
This pattern is similar to Marx’s stages of political systems which process from
the capitalist stage to socialist dictatorships and gets eventually to the
communist stage or workers paradise.
Violence is a homework for tyler: he states that the social order and robotic
materialistic life of capitalism can be destructed by violence. Such as boy who
works in a market store but actually desired to be vetenerian.
People wanted to become a part of the team of fight club and they will training
in tyler’s house. In order to do that they dared to stay motionless for 3days.
Tyler finally build an army. And had remember them that they are not special
they are just creatures.
people are deceived to believe they will become millionaire... and this
generation is very angry. This rage will take down the system as Marx has
suggested.

IN TIME:
Clock on their wrists that activates the one when 25 year old then they stop
aging. And this timer replace money. They need to gain time to survive. The
lower-working class person has to go to work and get time which is not
enough to survive, extremely low wages so, they have to work to survive. The
dominant feeling of the working class is worrying . worrying about time-out.
They are busy to worry so they cant question – think about the system. This
class members have no control in their lives or the system in which they lived.
They are also not able to challenge or revolt. FALSE CONCSCIOUSNESS
materialism instituonal and ideological processes in society mislead the
members of the society. They continue to step with capitalism so they
maintain the production for the good of the capitalist system. GREENWICH is
a city which has imperial standards. The characters move across the divide
between classes time zone borders. They experienced the lives of different
classes-
The working class zone even cannot sleep how much they want to. Actually
the main point is if you have no money- statue- you (should) die. Will salas
make an overthrow the system. Sylvia’s dad believed that someone has to be
sacrificed to someone’s immortality. capitalistic structure is in this place,
domination. This false consciousness is in place to make the poor believe that
there is not enough time in the world for them, and that it is better to have a
few people that can live forever than for everyone to have equal time.
Shawshank Redemption
critique of the American prison system and all of its injustices.
Analyzing Shawshank Redemption through the Marxist lens demonstrates
how capitalist economies influence prison systems. In the film Shawshank
Redemption there are various classifications and divisions amongst prisoners
and between prisoners and the guards. the guards are the bourgeoisie
representing the privileged group that actively work towards the inequality
between them and the prisoners. when a prisoner is brutally beaten to death
by one of the guards for having a mental breakdown regarding his new reality
in prison life.
ellis Red identifies this as being “institutionalized” when one has become
dependent on the prison system because they struggle to exist in the real
world.
