AFIT REA REPORT

SUMMARY
The Energizing Education Program (EEP) is an initiative of the
Federal Government of Nigeria in order to provide a sustainable
and clean power supply to 37 Federal universities and 7 university
teaching hospitals across Nigeria. The project includes provision
of an independent power plant, upgrading existing distribution
infrastructure, street lightening to improve security within the
universities’ campuses, as well as the development of a world
class training center on renewable energy for each university.
The project is being implemented by the Rural Electrification
Agency (REA) and developed in phases. Phase one will deliver
28.5 megawatts to 9 federal universities and 1 University
Teaching Hospital, using solar hybrid/ or gas – fired power plants.
Phase 1 of the EEP Will benefit 12700+ students, 28000+ staff,
4700+ staff in teaching hospitals and power 2800+ street lights.
Phase 1 is fully funded by the FGN, within this phase there are 7
solar hybrid projects currently benefitting from funding from the
green board issued by the FGN. While subsequent phases are to
be funded by the Nigerian Electrification Project which is an FGN
partnership with the World Bank and African Development Bank.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The Rural Education Agency (REA) in collaboration with the
Nigerian Air force institute of technology (AFIT) plan to key into
energized educational programs. It is a program designed for
federal universities to bridge the gaps provided by epileptic power
supply. This has proven to be a major hindrance in research

purposes and as such have agreed to build power plants for
federal universities and hospitals.
It hopes to provide stand alone min grid system which can run on
wind power, battery system, and gas power between 3-7 mega
watts. The program also hopes to train 180 female engineering
students from AFIT in the area of energy research.
It hopes to build a center for energy research in AFIT where the
institution hopes to pay 30% of all it consumes as a means for
maintenance and for miscellaneous expenses.
AFIT has done its energy audit and has forecasted its audit
according to the master plan which has been submitted to the
REA office during a courtesy visit with the former commandant
AVM Olabisi.

TECNOLOGY.
The was a Courtesy visit by the Air force institute of technology
Kaduna to the managing Director Rural Electrification Agency for
familiarization and support on the Energizing Education program
of the Agency.
The Managing Director Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Saliji
Ahmad was represented by the Executive Director Cooperates
Services, Chief Alaba Netuso.

The agency has received the AFIT community and the institution
has been following up on the collaboration with the agency.
