Please bear in mind that procedure only shows general guidelines and minimum requirements. Thus QCP/ITP and
general standards are to be seen as basis – and as a leading document. As a consequence amendments of proce-
dure will not be executed – or executed in very small details only.
1 Scope
This documented procedure applies to the Industrial Pumps Section at the Pegnitz site.
2 Purpose
This Works Standard shall govern the procedure for hydrostatic tests using water on components or complete
pumps, which are performed to check pressure-retaining components for tightness and strength.
3 Normative references
4 Responsibilities
- Technical Order Processing shall be responsible for specifiying the test pressurek, the test period and defin-
ing whether these values refer to complete pumps or to pumps used as test units without shaft seal (dum-
mies).
- Operations Scheduling shall be responsible for planning and introducing the required equipment and the re-
lated test specifications in the production orders (FAUF).
- Production shall be responsible for performing the specified tests and inspections.
5 Procedure
- The individual components shall be tested and inspected using special testing equipment.
All tests and inspections of fully assembled pumps or pumps used as test units without shaft seal shall fulfill
the specifications stated in the production orders..
The test set-up shall allow for testing free-standing specimen without any additional external forces being ap-
plied to them, and with the pump flanges closed with blind flanges.
- The test pressure and test period shall be as specified in the Quality Control Plan (QCP)
- Test fluid: water containing anti-corrosion and wetting agents (concentration: 3,5 %), chlorid content < 50 ppm
T = room temperature, pressure (P) = 1,5 x the permissible operating pressure (MAWP) over a period of 30
minutes at least (MAWP = max. allowable working pressure)
- Any repairs to the pressure-retaining components shall require a repeat of the hydrostatic test.
- All pump pressure-retaining components shall be tested at same pressure.
6 Acceptance criteria
Cracks and marks indicating leakage must not occur while the test pressure is applied. Visible deformation is
neither permissible.
The hydrostatic test shall be considered satisfactory if neither leaks nor seepage through the pressure-retaining
parts and joints occur within 30 min.

7 Test certificate
If certification is required as per the customer order, the documentation shall be prepared accordingly.
