The “KUBOTA MU 5501” tractor had undergone “Initial Commercial Test” at this
Institute and a test report No. T- 978/1502/2015 released on August, 2015. Now the applicant
has submitted an application vide letter No. Nil, dated 08.10.2018 for batch testing of “KUBOTA
MU 5501” tractor.
The applicant has submitted that modified labeling plate, PTO shaft & re-declaration of
maximum PTO power 36.5 kW instead of 35.0 kW as per MoM circulated vide letter No. 1-
1/2007-Test dated 23.10.2019 as per IS:12207-2019 has been implemented from the following

this tractor model having test report No. T – 978/ 1502/2015 released in August 2015. So, as

13.4 Salient Observations:


13.4.1 Laboratory test:

13.4.1.1 PTO Performance Test:

13.4.1.3 Hydraulic Performance Test:
-- i) Coupled frame mast angle over the full
range of lift has been recorded as 8
degree against the minimum
requirement of 10 degree. This should
be looked into for necessary corrective
action.
ii) The moment about rear axle with hitch
and coupled frame was computed as
18.62 kN & 25.86 kN respectively,
whereas moment about front axle is
computed as 15.45 kN. The moment
about rear axle with hitch and coupled
frame is on higher side as compared to
moment about front axle. It is therefore
recommended that the lifting capacity of
hydraulic system may be reduced
suitably or standard ballast
recommendation may be reviewed to
avoid front lifting of tractor.
13.5 Adequacy of literature:
Following literature of KUBOTA MU 5501 tractor model was supplied with the test
sample for reference during the test.

14.3 Salient Observations:


14.3.1 Laboratory tests:
14.3.1.1 PTO Performance Test:
i) The maximum PTO power was recorded as 37.0 kW against the declaration
of 36.5 kW, which meets the requirement of IS: 12207-2019 with regard to
tolerance limit.
ii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to maximum power was
recorded as 241 g/kWh against the declaration of 249 g/kWh, which is within
the tolerance limit of IS: 12207-2019.
iii) The maximum equivalent crankshaft torque was recorded as 194.1 N-m
against the declaration of 187 N-m, which is within the permissible limit as
specified in IS: 12207-2019.
iv) The backup torque is 26.5 %.
v) The drop in maximum PTO Power of 6.5% was recorded between natural and
high ambient condition and which is on higher side. Therefore, this should be
looked into for necessary corrective action.
14.3.1.2 Drawbar performance test:
During ten hours drawbar performance test, creeping of LHS & RHS rear tyre over
the rims was recorded as 27 & 47 mm respectively. This should be looked into for
necessary corrective action.
14.3.1.3 Hydraulic performance test:
i) Coupled frame mast angle over the full range of lift has been recorded as 8
degree against the minimum requirement of 10 degree. This should be
looked into for necessary corrective action.
ii) The moment about rear axle with hitch and coupled frame was computed as
18.62 kN & 25.86 kN respectively, whereas moment about front axle is
computed as 15.45 kN. The moment about rear axle with hitch and coupled
frame is on higher side as compared to moment about front axle. It is
therefore recommended that the lifting capacity of hydraulic system may be
reduced suitably or standard ballast recommendation may be reviewed to
avoid front lifting of tractor.
14.3.1.4 Mechanical Vibration:
The amplitude of mechanical vibration on various assemblies marked as (*) in
Chapter – 8 of this test report is on higher side. This calls for dampening down of
vibrations especially steering control to improve the operational comfort and service
life of components.
14.3.1.5 Haulage Test:
i) Distance travelled / litre of fuel consumption with four wheel trailer has been
recorded as 4.18 to 4.32 km/l against the declaration of 6.1  1 km/l. This
should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
ii) Specific fuel consumption with four wheel trailer has been recorded as 31.9 to
32.5 ml/km/tone against the declaration of 20  5 ml/km/tone. This should be
looked into for necessary corrective action.
14.3.1.6 Symbols for operator controls and displays:
Grease lubricant type and frequency, oil lubricant type and frequency, are not
identifiable with the symbols as per IS:6283 (Part-1 & 2 ) -2006 & 2007 (re-affirmed
in March, 2014). This should be pay attention for improvement as per relevant test
code.
14.4 Maintenance / Service Problems:
No noticeable maintenance / service problem was observed during the test.

14.5 Recommendation with regard to safety on tractor:


The following requirements, inter alia, may be considered for incorporation on the
tractor:
i) Width of operator‟s seat.
ii) Inclination of operator‟s seat towards rear direction.
iii) Longitudinal distance from SIP to centre of differential lock.
iv) Longitudinal distance from SIP to centre of steering control wheel.
v) The spark arrester has not been provided in the exhaust system
vi) There should be provision of PTO Shield.
vii) Working clearance between the PTO lever & mudguard, main gear lever &
mudguard is less than the minimum requirement.
viii) Vertical retainers should be provided on both side of clutch pedal.

14.6 Adequacy of Literature supplied with machine:
