Firstly, I would like to thank the Lord for enabling to me to complete this project
successfully. I would like to pay my special regards to Ms Lakshmi Kartika and Ms Vanitha. It
is whole-heartedly appreciated that your great advice proved monumental towards the
success of this study. I wish to express my deepest gratitude to my friends and family for
providing me their undying support throughout the duration of this project. I am indebted to
all the rest of the teachers who due to length constraints cannot be named here, but without
whom I wouldn’t have been able to complete this assignment.
And lastly, I would like to thank myself for taking up this project and doing it in its
entirety, and for sparing myself no trouble in doing so.

INTRODUCTION
I can say with reasonable confidence that anyone who is reading this will be
aware of the existential crisis we’re currently facing. The Novel Coronavirus
Disease-2019 has wreaked havoc not just for our country, but for the entire planet. It
serves as a threat to the very existence of our species. Such a situation was
unimaginable when the year had just begun and we were all looking forward to the
new decade. Today we face an extraordinary situation, and it is up to us to assess the
problem in the hope of finding a solution and ending this pandemic through strategic
and timed lockdowns. Therefore, let us take a brief look at the circumstances we are
facing today. In the process, let us also explore how graphical representation of data
is useful in drawing conclusions.
Although all parts of our country have
been vastly affected, here we will be taking a
deep dive into the situation at Jammu and
Kashmir, the North-most state of India and the
subject of various controversies, even before
the pandemic. Before we look at Kashmir from
the COVID-19 angle, let us look at its history in
brief to get some context.
These events(among other factors) set the stage for the severity of Coronavirus in Jammu
and Kashmir, when compared to other parts of India.
From the table below we can see that the rate of spread of the virus in Kashmir is higher
than the severity of the average state in India.(For source, see this page .)
INDIA 7,503
`
From this graph the following is observed:
➔ Rate of testing positive for the virus is low(not considering moral factors), at 3.3%
of the total number of people tested.
➔ Although a remarkable number of people were tested, the total number is still
less than a quarter of the population of J&K, which stands at more than
1,25,00,000.
➔ The graph does, however, give us a pretty good idea of the overall spread of the
virus in the state.
THE CURRENT SCENARIO
On the following page is attached a graph giving the details of the current
COVID-19 case count. From this graph can be concluded the following:
❏ Death toll is relatively low when compared to the recovery rate(in line with the
conclusion of previous data).
❏ The number of active cases has reduced to 3,133(SOURCE), the lowest since
July.
❏ If the newly discovered mutant of the n-Coronavirus can be neglected, it is highly
probable that the pandemic will come to an end very soon in Jammu-Kashmir.
COVID-19 CASES IN J&K AS OF 29 DEC,2020(SOURCE)
IN CONCLUSION
We have through this study, made an assessment of the spread of the
Coronavirus disease and are now in a position to make practical predictions for the
foreseeable future of the spread of the virus. We have observed that the cases surged
most prominently in the earliest period of the pandemic and has come close to a
crunch in the more recent months. It is highly probable that the pandemic is coming to
an end.
While the data at hand right now is very useful in making these predictions, we
can not be completely sure how the coming months will play out, since there are many
other factors to this.
With the vaccine in sight and the shrinking spread of the virus, the odds grow
even more in our favor.
However, with the discovery of the mutant Coronavirus, the probability that the
pandemic hasn’t ended yet increases. As you can see, there are a lot of other factors
that we haven’t discussed and probably even more that haven’t even been discovered
yet.
All in all, we see that using graphical representations of data is really useful for
Research and Development, even if the dependencies in this case aren’t totally clear.
The added advantage is that such data is legible even to a layman. At any rate, such
representations give us a good idea of the circumstances and show us a way to move
forward in this period of unrest.

THANK YOU!
